‘The Golden Boy’ can finally heave a sigh of relief. After a roller-coaster of names, finally, charge Ryan Garcia and archrival Devin Haney found good enough reason to square up in the ring. But ever the optimistic matchmaker that he is, Oscar De La Hoya perhaps believes a line-up capable of rivaling the one he has in hand could be made.

December and the beginning of the new year proved nothing short of an ordeal for De la Hoya. A fight deal with Devin Haney appeared there for the taking. But Ryan Garcia would rather dance with Rolando Romero. However, destiny had something else in store. Next, it was Jose Ramirez‘s turn to get shunted out. By the end of January, however, the dust had settled. ‘KingRy’ and ‘The Dream’ seemed willing to settle their arguments in the ring. Probably that’s why, now that the Albatross has taken wings, De La Hoya suggested, why not try a hand at another blockbuster?

A few hours ago, taking to his X/Twitter handle, Oscar De La Hoya quipped something unusual. Both Shakur Stevenson and Abdul Wahid (formerly Gervonta Davis) are miles away from ‘The Golden Boy Promotions’. However, the former Olympic medalist and world champion threw a poser to the followers. What if both the 135-pound mates were to slug it out in the ring? “Now that Ryan and Haney are fighting, why not Shakur vs. Tank? What do you guys  think?” Asked De La Hoya.

‘Tank’ rules the roost as the WBA lightweight champion. Incidentally, he crushed Ryan Garcia in one of 2023’s biggest matches. To most fans, he remains one of the ‘faces of boxing’. Shakur Stevenson, on the other hand, entered the 135-pound division last year.

Already a two-division champion, he added another feather to his cap by claiming the WBC lightweight title, left vacant by Devin Haney, in November. But just when things appeared promising for the talented southpaw from New Jersey, the shocker of news came that he announced his retirement from professional boxing.

So first thing first, if at all a fight has to take place between the two, then ‘Sugar’ will have to come out of retirement! Digs aside, the fact remains that a clash between the two has been envisaged in the past. However, nothing concrete ever came out. But it doesn’t mean that it cannot happen in the future either.

While speaking at the 2nd Wind podcast, Stevenson, when asked about a mega-fight with ‘Tank, said, “Honestly, there’s only one fight that is really that…..me and Tank; it’s the biggest fight in the world, yeah, like it’s gonna be the biggest boxing fight in the world when it happens.
