Months after their first clash, the rumors of Jake Paul and Nate Diaz‘s rematch have again gained traction. The boxing spectacle the two put on in Texas in August proved to be a PPV hit, and soon the fans demanded a rematch in the cage. While the two initially pushed for a rematch clause, the talks slowed down. However, there has been a renewed interest recently. The PFL is ready to offer a big stage. But is it what ‘The Problem Child’ needs right now?

The American internet star, Jake Paul, has set his eye on becoming a world champion and is gradually molding himself into a combat star. He is from the first crop that popularized crossover boxing and is still climbing up the ladder. Besides boasting an impressive 7-1 record, the American prizefighter also harbors a desire to excel in MMA. Therefore, he penned a deal with PFL earlier this year to prove his credentials. And as fate may have it, he might make his debut next year against Diaz, a UFC veteran.

Jake Paul and his MMA fortunes: a smart choice for his career

While we have seen the likes of Conor McGregor and Francis Ngannou crossing over to the squared circle, the reverse is a rare phenomenon. The last prominent boxer who fought inside the steel cage was James Toney, who tapped out in under 3 minutes in 2010 against former UFC champion Randy Couture.

Paul can join the likes of Toney, the boxer who dared to step into the steel cage, if he inks a deal with Diaz. The 26-year-old, despite knocking down Diaz and collecting a win over him, will undoubtedly enter as an underdog. What fate awaits him depends on his performance that day.

Whatever the outcome, the American boxer will inch closer to cementing his career as a combat sports artist. Further, he will silence his doubters and also draw attention to the PFL, a promotion that has even bagged Ngannou. His debut in MMA against an MMA legend touted as being worth $15 million is a dream start. But will Paul hand Diaz another defeat? This time in his opponent’s familiar terrain.

What are Jake Paul’s chances against Nate Diaz in their MMA clash? Is a loss a win in disguise?

The American YouTuber might drop his MMA debut against Diaz. However, if he can take the fight deep, resist Diaz’s takedown attempt, and land some of his punches, he will bow out with applause.

Paul could look at his performance, soak in his moral victory, and pat his own back for such an endeavor. In addition, the Cleveland native could also showcase his wrestling skills and shock the world. For those unaware, he has a wrestling background. As he claims, he was a state wrestler in Division 1 in Ohio.

Notably, Ohio is one of the top wrestling states, and hence Paul’s wrestling credentials might be a surprising weapon in his arsenal. Combined with his punching power, Paul might have a well-rounded game and flourish on the MMA circuit. But Paul’s successful MMA career hinges on Diaz accepting the fight in PFL.

Is Jake Paul vs. Nate Diaz close to fruition, or is Diaz trying to dodge a bullet?

Recent reports suggest Diaz is not willing to agree to terms for their MMA rematch. Diaz had injured his arm in training while preparing for the Paul fight. It’s not known when the UF veteran will recover or if he will sign a deal to return to MMA. PFL founder Donn Davis recently detailed the gloomy situation.

In a conversation with Ariel Helwani, Davis called out Diaz for hiding “behind a rock,” after reportedly agreeing to a rematch in the PFL SmartCage. He said, “If we could ever put together Jake vs. Nate. If Nate would stop weaseling out and complaining about that MMA fight with Jake.” Davis then declared, “$10–15 million. Biggest payday of his life. He gets beat by Jake, and he’s hiding behind a rock.”

Meanwhile, Paul understands why Diaz is dodging a fight worth $10 million with him. The American believes it’s too big of a risk for Diaz and might cost him his legacy. Diaz is old, slowing down, and has diminished reflexes. When Paul reaffirms his faith in his power and believes Diaz can’t take him down, it shows the confidence he packs. Whether Paul loses or wins, the Diaz fight inside the cage will turn his career around.
