The realization has dawned on Ryan Garcia. He is chasing glory. But after publicly getting tangled with Devin Haney, he has decided to take a different path that doesn’t go through ‘The Dream.’ The American boxer is making quick strides in his career and, recently, has found himself at a critical junction. However, he has also found a mentor in Floyd Mayweathera legend who knows the game too well. Is it him calling shots, or is it Floyd Mayweather pulling strings from the back for his gains?

‘KingRy’ shocked the boxing world and fans when he left the negotiations for a title against Devin Haney. The fans have been robbed of a classic clash of carnage vs. method. But the 25-year-old now eyes a world title after dethroning Rolando Romero. While the world continues to make sense of the decision and Haney fumes, it is Floyd Mayweather who might be smirking.

Who will win the world heavyweight title?

Ryan Garcia is on a redemption arc after dropping the fight to Gervonta Davis and has bounced back splendidly after knocking out Oscar Duarte. He has moved up to 140 and is now ready to take his career to the next level. His 11 million social media followers want him to be a world champion, and after finding a mentor in Floyd Mayweather, there is a shift in how Garcia deals.

‘Money’ knew how to put on PPV shows and rake in money. Garcia, at 24-1, is a PPV star. He sold 1.1 million PPVs when he fought ‘Tank.’ Meanwhile, Haney’s rumored PPV buys for his last fight against Regis Prograis were a mere 50,000. The numbers have been largely the same for his last few fights, and with these numbers, he brings nothing to the table.

Mayweather knows Haney needs Garcia more than the other way around. Haney is a belt holder with no fanbase, and the Haneys wanted a larger share of the PPV pie. The morning runs and discussions with Mayweather have made Garcia realize that boxing is a business first. The California native needs a more charismatic WBA champion, ‘Rolly’ Romero, for his next fight instead of a technical and non-exciting Haney. It will be a win-win for both Rolly Romero and Mayweather.

A huge win for Mayweather Promotions and Rolando Romero

Ryan Garcia is the fight Rolando Romero, a Mayweather Promotions product, would have craved. Romero is the fighter who moves the needle with his blunt remarks and trash-talking. His qualities will help promote the Garcia fight, and this fight will also make more money than the Haney fight.

Mayweather Promotions is guaranteed to take substantial money back home and make a name for itself by putting on a big fight. The promotion will become a more lucrative option for other fighters. In addition, Mayweather himself is set to elevate himself as a mentor, as Garcia is better placed against Romero. Haney might have outpointed him in the supposed fight. However, the landscape and permutations change when Romero and Garcia are out in the square circle exchanging punches.

The bigger picture for Ryan Garcia and Mayweather Promotions

Undoubtedly, Garcia’s stock will rise once he is the world champion. Snatching the title away from Romero is a better look at Garcia’s resume. Picking up a win against Romero will put him on an equal footing with other champions at 140. It will give him leverage at the negotiation table if Garcia later intends to fight other champions at 140.

Meanwhile, all these developments take place as Oscar De La Hoya‘s Golden Boy Promotions and Garcia are at loggerheads. Garcia wants to quit the promotion, and he is on the lookout. If Mayweather can guide Garcia to a victory and solidify his stature as a champion, fans might soon expect Garcia to join the Mayweather Promotions.

Adding a proven PPV star in Ryan Garcia, who might become a world champion before he switches alliances with Mayweather Promotions, might be the best business step for the promotion. Rolly Romero, Garcia, and Floyd Mayweather are all set to gain from Garcia vs. Romero.

I hail from a family of passionate sports lovers, especially combat sports. It is from there that I realized how aptly combat sports embody life. The words of Jeremy Lesniak, "It's not about learning to fight, it's about learning to be better through the expression of action" resonated with the interest I had in combat sports.
