September 12, Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas. For the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight, that was the update everyone had. Till recently, that is. Seemingly, reports suggested and speculated about a change in date. Now, the latest news reports reveal the two pound-for-pound best boxers may square up in a different location altogether.
Perhaps, to halt the swirling rumors spiraling out of proportion, Turki Alalshikh, whose Riyadh Season and Dana White‘s new boxing promotion are promoting the Canelo-Crawford showdown, decided to set the record straight. It didn’t take much time before many fans and followers started chiming in with their views and some suggestions.

This should be crystal clear
Without mincing words, Turki Alalshikh said, “Will announce at the right time when and where the big fight Canello and Crawford and in which platform!” His tweet follows Ring Magazine’s earlier post where it mentioned that instead of September 12, the Canelo-Crawford fight could potentially take place on September 13.

Additionally, it stated, “The Riyadh Season PPV event could land in five potential locations across New York City, Los Angeles, or Las Vegas.” Of course, sometime later, Ring Magazine decided to invite followers to choose between the three major cities.
It may take some time before precise reasons behind the date/venue change emerge. But a few reports reveal the Allegiant Stadium, home to the Las Vegas Raiders, may possibly host the football team’s home game on September 13. Then, around the same time, UFC Noche is scheduled to take place in Guadalajara, Canelo’s hometown in Mexico.
Let’s check what a few fans had to say after Turki Alalshikh posted his message.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford: A tale of cities…and time
This user had already made some preparations, it seems. “T-Mobile or MGM Grand. Only options,” they said before adding that they had already booked tickets for Las Vegas. “Booked my flight to Las Vegas already.” It’s possible, based on the initial news, a few fans might have taken similar measures.
A similar story followed. This fan said, “Turki fans like myself have already bought tickets for Sept 12, and they are basically sold out?” Considering the hype around the fight, the excitement has been sky-high, leading many people to make such decisions. So, it’s difficult to judge whether they are right or wrong.

The Canelo-Crawford fight never received this follower’s vote: “Not interested. Terrible fight. Canelo should have fought Benavidez.” That’s a fairly common grouse. Instead of fighting a champion who needs to climb up two weight classes (it was three initially, remember), why does Canelo refuse to fight a champion who was his mandatory at 168 pounds?

Las Vegas remains the frontrunner among venue options. This fan said, “This fight deserves Vegas on Saturday!” You see, Las Vegas is like a second home to Canelo. Barring a few exceptions like the John Ryder or Billie Joe Saunders fights, most of his recent fights took place in and around Sin City. So when it comes to probably the biggest fight of his career, most fans would want to see it happen in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Then, for this fan, it was the fight that mattered more than anything else. “Wherever it takes place, it’ll be lit 🔥. Amazing fight. Fight of a Generation 👀,” they said. After the Floyd Mayweather–Manny Pacquiao showdown in 2015, this will indeed be the biggest fight boxing is going to witness.
Nevertheless, now that Turki Alalshikh has spoken, fans have no choice but to wait till further details emerge.

Perhaps in light of how the recent Riyadh Season events on May 2 and 3 unfolded, the team might take extra caution. It’s a historic fight; hence, they will take additional precautionary measures before zeroing in on a particular date and venue.
