On Friday, another venue in London lights up as various fights line up to entertain the audience. Under Queensbury Promotions‘ auspices, York Hall in Bethnal Green will hold seven bouts, four tentatively for regional titles. Each contest promises an exciting experience. However, there remains a match touted as the showstopper of the event. And boss Frank Warren could barely hide his happiness as he shared the news with followers.

On August 18, out of the seven bouts, three will be fought in the Featherweight division and two in the Super Welterweight division. The remaining two are in the Super Featherweight and Super Bantam divisions. However, the fight for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental Super Bantam belt between the young British boxer Dennis McCann and Ionut Baluta from Romania is expected to be the most thrilling.

A fight night to look forward to, says Frank Warren

So twenty-four-year-old Maidstone, Kent-born Southpaw McCann will enter the ring with an unbeaten record of fourteen wins. Eight of his victories came through knockouts, lending him a knockout-to-win rate of 57%. On the other hand, twenty-nine-year-old Constanta, Romania-born Baluta, is a veteran of twenty fights, of which sixteen he won; the remaining four were losses.

So taking to his X account, Frank Warren wrote, “A fully sold-out York Hall on a Friday night, 4 title fights headlined by such an exciting fight! What’s not to love? If you’re not lucky enough to join us at York Hall, make sure to tune into TNT Sports!” He had tagged Queensbury Promotions’ X account, where the post read that one of the year’s most exciting fights was fast approaching.

Reportedly, among British boxers, Ionut Baluta enjoys a reputation as ‘The Upsetter,’ given his knack for defeating upcoming prospects. For instance, on March 25 this year, he defeated the till-then-unbeaten Andrew Cain in Telford to become the WBC International Silver Super Bantam title holder. Hence, whether he can score another upset win at York Hall on Friday remains to be seen.

Other title bouts include Briton Nathaniel Collins defending his British and Commonwealth Featherweight title against Raza Hamza. Then Southampton, Hampshire-born Ryan Garner fights Spaniard Juan Jesus Antunez for the vacant WBC International Super Featherweight title. Finally, Norwich, Norfolk-born Raven Chapman will defend her WBC International Featherweight title against Sao Paulo, Brazil-born Lila dos Santos Furtado.
