Japanese boxer Kazuki Anaguchi has passed away at the age of 23. His last fight was against Seiya Tsutsumi, the current JBC Japanese Bantamweight champion. With the Japanese Bantamweight title on the line, Anaguchi and Tsutsumi shared the ring on December 26th. After the duo battled for 10 three-minute rounds, all three judges scored the bout in Tsustsumi’s favor.

Later, the 23-year-old boxer had to be hospitalized. Soon, it was revealed that Anaguchi suffered from subdural hematoma given all the shots his head absorbed during the Tsutsumi fight. As per the latest updates, Anaguchi breathed his last this Friday in a hospital in Tokyo. After the news was circulated, several entities from the boxing world took to social media and offered condolences.

In the 4th round of the fight, Tsutsumi measured his reach and landed a cross on Kazuki’s chin. Given Tsutsumi maintained an appropriate gap between the two legs, his punch contained power. And as he followed a shaken Kazuki, the 23-year-old was knocked down. In the fifth round, Kazuki fought with his head down and took a significant number of Tsutsumi’s shots. Although Kazuki wanted to fight toe-to-toe, Tsustsumi was quicker and landed the more effective shots on the former’s head and body. And even though Tsutsumi started bleeding too, Kazuki was quite exhausted before they reached the final round.

Anyway, after George Kambosos Jr. heard the news he informed the fans he watched the bout live:

I feel combat sport is a representation of life inside a cage or ring. There is fear, struggle, and the will to be free. It has a poetic quality.
