Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero vs. Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz: Gervonta Davis Brought Up to Prove Mayweather Promotions CEO’s Point

The CEO of Mayweather Promotions, Leonard Ellerbe is backing Rolando Romero to KO Isaac Cruz on March 30. Cruz is yet to suffer a KO defeat in his career and even managed to go the distance against Gervonta Davis in 2021. But Ellerbe believes there is a very good reason as to why ‘Tank’ couldn’t finish the fight early against the ‘Pitbull.’
Ahead of their fight, the WBA Super-Lightweight champion, Romero, claimed, “I’m gonna knock him out. He’s gonna come forward and I’m gonna stop him.” Replying to this show of confidence, a fan said, “Be careful of Pitbull. He can hit hard and he has a strong chin too…” This led Leonard Ellerbe to refer to Cruz’s fight against Gervonta Davis.
“He’s not a puncher, who has he clipped?” asked Ellerbe. After Isaac Cruz vs. Gervonta Davis, it was revealed that ‘Tank’ had fought ‘Pitbull’ with an injured left hand. Having hit Cruz with his knuckles, Davis hurt his hand in the sixth round. This could have been a reason why he couldn’t knock Cruz out. Therefore, Ellerbe added, “The only reason he doesn’t have a KO loss is Tank fought him with one hand. Literally!!! Tune in Saturday.”

In 2021, when Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, faced Cruz, several people expected a knockout. However, ‘Pitbull’ stood for a full 12 rounds against ‘Tank’ Davis. It is worth mentioning that when Isaac Cruz called out Gervonta Davis in 2023, ‘Tank even bragged saying, “I beat ya a** with one hand.”

Ellerbe has not been sitting on the fence when it comes to picking a winner between Cruz and Romero. Last month also, he expressed his belief that Romero will get the better of the Mexican boxer.
“Gonna clip him early,” Ellerbe believes Rolly will hand Cruz his first KO loss
Talking to Fight Hub TV, Ellerbe explained how Cruz’s aggressive style might work in favor of Romero. He said, “We know that Pitbull’s gonna come. I think that’s gonna play right into Rolly’s hands.” He also mentioned how he expects the fight to play out. “Neither guy is going to be sit back and bouncing around and fighting off the back foot. It’s like Rolly will have some things in his arsenal to be able to counter that,” Ellerbe added.

He sounded confident of a Romero KO win and said, “I think he’s gonna win, he’s gonna win emphatically and I think Rolly is gonna clip him early. Would not surprise me one bit.” Cruz, on the other hand remains unbothered.
In an interview with Boxing Scene, he said, “Whatever c**p and trash he wants to talk, that’s up to him. I’m going to talk inside the ring.” Well, the time for talk is over and fans will soon find out who will stand out tall.
