Mayweather Promotions’ CEO, Leonard Ellerbe is dropping some major truth bombs, and they are quite scathing. In Today’s era, where everyone has their version of the ‘truth’, there comes a time when the facade drops and facts stick. It is in this belief that the CEO has now embarked on a mission to debunk some major Floyd Mayweather rumors with the facts that he has in possession. One such rumor is that the fighter turned down millions for a fight against Paul Spadafora. Why? It concerns a sparring session between the two.

In 1999, Paul Spadafora entered into a 6-round sparring session against Floyd Mayweather, who had been in the professional ring for about 2 years and was coming off a streak of wins. By the time the fourth round had taken the course, Mayweather was gassed. As per Spadafora’s coach, the latter even asked for an early end to the session. But his requests were to no avail. Since then, Spadafora continues to remain a name that put Floyd Mayweather in check. Recently, someone on Twitter claimed that Mayweather dodged a fight against Spadafora. Years later, the conjecture has been refuted by Ellerbe.

Floyd Mayweather was not offered a Spadafora fight

Ellerbe who has been close to Pretty Boy for over 18 years, now has taken on himself to clarify the rumors and misinformation amok about the legendary champion. Recently, in one such effort, the CEO took to his X in clarification of the infamous $20 million Spadafora fight conjecture.

It has been vividly told and believed that in the wake of their sparring session, ‘Money’ was offered a stellar $20 million to fight against the Pittsburg native. It was also said that Mayweather based on the “multiple times” that he’s sparred with the ‘Pittsburg Kid’ did not wanna take the risk, so chose not to fight. In response, Ellerbe launched some truth bombs.

He clarified that Mayweather received no 20-million-dollar big fight against ‘Spaddy.’ He also added that Floyd sparred against the latter only once in his career (the famous 1999 one), and it came after a long break that he had taken. Hence, he could not fight as per his caliber due to the months-long sabbatical.

The account that had reported the supposed $20 million fight clapped back at the CEO. ‘Hands of Stone’ defended its claims by saying that its sources never lie. Ellerbe again doubled down on his clarification. He asked the Hands of Stone to name the person who offered Mayweather the Spaddy fight, and when were the times when they sparred again.

Ellerbe is a fierce defender of Mayweather and stood up for him against online trolls multiple times.]Apart from the Spaddy fight controversy, he also spoke about his role in Mayweather’s rise.

Ellerbe and Mayweather; rising through the ranks

Years ago, Ellerbe was a major catalyst in the fighter’s formative career. Explaining why he knows the best about Money’s career, Ellerbe noted, “I hired the sparring and ran the camps, so I would know. You can’t tell me shit about his career, that’s why I just laugh at these clowns. We built this from the bottom brick by brick. We did that”

In his career of 50 unbeaten fights, Mayweather has time and again proven his boxing acumen. However, multiple critics have argued that his trajectory in the sport is a result of the strategic choosing of his opponents.
