Fans and followers have seen a whole new avatar of Ryan Garcia since the announcement of the fight with Devin Haney. However, by and large, his activities were restricted to the online landscape. Still, it was perhaps more than enough since it left many shell-shocked. But later on, it felt like, with the days leading up to the fight night closing, he played it down a bit. Maybe the quiet before the storm? But then what about the latest venting out against Alycia Baumgardner, all of a sudden? Of course, it followed a tweet from the latter’s rival, Claressa Shields.

The latest spurt of messages from Garcia might have left a few once again in doubt. So, are the ghosts of those initial days of bizarre messaging back? Let’s hope that’s not the case. Like many, Claressa Shields just couldn’t get enough of ‘KingRy’s singing skills that he displayed during the GQ interview. She let the world know how much she appreciated it. But Ryan Garcia lending a voice of support for her perhaps took even her by surprise.

No wonder she stated outright, “If y’all don’t believe nothing else he say, believe this!” After all, one of the biggest stars of boxing is throwing his weight for her cause. Of late, both Shields and Baumgardner have shared some unsavory moments. Though not with the best choice of words, Ryan Garcia gave a loud shout-out to the two-time Olympic gold medalist. But why should Ryan Garcia go against Alycia Baumgardner all of a sudden? There’s a Haney angle in the plot. ‘The Bomb’ currently undergoes her training in Las Vegas, under the watchful eyes of Devin Haney’s father. Fans may not have forgotten how Haney Sr. jumped in, lambasting Adrien Broner, when he reportedly questioned Baumgardner for picking Bill Haney as her trainer.

While she has been seeking a rematch with Savannah Marshall, Claressa Shields’ back and forth with Alycia Baumgardner has been making it to the headlines for some time now. Some two weeks ago, many saw the two locking horns at the Las Vegas venue of the Richardson Hitchins and Gustavo Lemos headliner. So why haven’t the two fought each other so far?

Any chance of a fight in the ring?

They have been calling out for a fight for some time now. However, the fact remains that Claressa Shields rules the middleweight. Whereas, Alycia Baumgardner lords over the super featherweight class. That’s a sheer difference of nearly thirty pounds. Though Shields has let known her willingness to fight in any weight division, the gap might be too much of an ask for her as well. Then there’s the issue surrounding Baumgardner’s drug-test case. Though cleared by the WBC and reportedly the Association of Boxing Commissions, the shadow of the controversy looms. Hence, any chance of a fight coming up between the two champions in the near future remains highly unlikely, at least for the time being.
