Ryan Garcia continues to win the hearts of people. Joining this list of admirers is Joe Rogan. After the groundbreaking upset that Garcia scored against Devin Haney, the controversial podcaster has now placed Garcia in the same league as a legendary light heavyweight champion. The point of this reflection? Garcia’s signature left hook.

Last week, in a fight that saw Ryan Garcia entering the fight as an underdog, the 25-year-old dominated the bout right from the beginning. His relentless hooks kept finding their mark on ‘The Dream’s face. Some of those hit flush home with the undefeated champion being dropped to the canvas thrice in the twelve-round fight. While Rogan criticized the referee for his misjudgment in awarding the number of knockdowns, he remained totally in awe of Ryan Garcia.

Is Ryan Garcia the next Roy Jones Jr.?

On his podcast, Rogan sat with UFC’s new BMF champ, Max Halloway. In their hour-long conversation the topic of the moment, Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia found its way. While discussing it, both speakers attributed KingRy’s win entirely to his powerful and fast left hook, which left Devin Haney visibly shaken.

Rogan compared Garcia’s hooks to that of former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Roy Jones Jr. Rogan explained, “It reminds me a lot of Roy Jones in his prime. Like Roy Jones Jr.’s, prime barely threw jabs, which is so crazy that a guy would be so fast that he could hit you with a leaping left hook.”

He further added, “Roy Jones had the craziest style of all times. And when he was in his prime, that dude was untouchable. Every fight was a execution. He’s the only guy in Compubox history who did not get a single punch landed on him in a round…But that left hook is a weapon. If you got a left hook like Ryan Garcia then, my god, that thing is fast… He may have the fastest left hooks I’ve ever seen.

In his career, Jones Jr. employed his left hook, which originated from the hip. Its speed and velocity added to the power of his usual punches. His opponents were always surprised by the leaping left hook and could hardly prepare, let alone defend against it. Garcia’s spectacular win has now marked his reign in the boxing realm.

Rogan, now his fan, is rallying to overturn the loss KingRy encountered against Gervonta Davis last year. That was Garcia’s only career loss.

Without a Rehydration Clause, Would Tank Lose?

In his fight against Haney, Garcia came overweight by over three pounds. However, in his fight against ‘Tank’, the fighter was restricted by a rehydration clause that did not allow him to gain more than 10 lbs after the weigh-ins at 135 lbs. His loss was highly attributed to the clause. Now, Joe Rogan thinks if a fully hydrated Ryan Garcia went against Tank, the latter would not win.

Thus, Rogan said to Halloway, “I would love to see Ryan Garcia, the one that we saw fully hydrated against Devin Haney, against Gervonta.” The Californian too remains confident that at a higher weight, he will dominate Tank, even worse than Haney. He has called on the Baltimore native to clash with him at either 143 or 144.

Do you think Gervonta Davis would be able to win that clash? Let us know in the comments section below.
