Ryan Garcia isn’t just a boxer; he’s a social media supernova. His fight against Devin Haney on April 20th is more than a championship clash; it’s a clash of eras. Garcia is the poster boy for a new breed of fighter. He rose to prominence not just with knockouts, but with killer social media promotional strategy. He bypassed traditional media, going “direct to the consumer” with viral videos that captivated millions. Titles and belts seem to pale in comparison to Garcia’s follower count. For boxing purists, like his next opponent, it’s a cause for concern. Their frustration is evident. Shouldn’t ring prowess be the priority no matter the era?

KingRy, however, sees a different path. “Make videos, go viral, fight, win, even more viral,” he declared in DAZN’s documentary. It’s a calculated formula, a blueprint for fame in the age of instant gratification. However, it backfired due to his bizarre flurry of posts, which even raised concerns for the boxer’s well-being. Now, he’s issued a challenge to the fans that might get him to finally stop posting.

Now that’s too steep!

Not only that, he even made some crude revelations about a famous podcaster Bobbi Althoff, with whom he had done an episode too.

Well, in a recent post on X, Garcia allowed his fans a chance to stop him from engaging in these shenanigans. However, the cost is a bit steep. So much so that boxing fans might have to toil hard to see this one through.

KingRy posted a tweet, where he claimed that he’d stop posting on his social media if his post got 1 million likes. Unironically, he exactly wrote this, “I will stop posting if this gets 1 million likes.” But it seems this might be too high of a benchmark for anyone, let alone Ryan Garcia.

As of now, the post has only been able to accumulate 858 likes, so it’s not even 1000. There’s hardly a chance it’d receive that many likes, because Garcia’s followers aren’t even 1 million. It’s about 712k as of now. Even before this, Garcia had deactivated his account out of nowhere but he came back within a few hours.

Ryan Garcia wanted some time off after the emotional video

Not long ago, Ryan Garcia found himself amid a personal and public conundrum. He desired to focus on his upcoming fight against Devin Haney. Garcia announced his intention to take a break from social media, intent on channeling his energy solely towards the task at hand – knocking out his opponent on April 20th. However, this self-imposed hiatus proved short-lived, as the young fighter resumed posting on Instagram just hours later.

This time, he expressed his anguish over the ongoing crisis in Gaza. Garcia’s emotional video, captured with a close-up lens, revealed a man struggling to contain the weight of the world on his shoulders. His tears, his contorted expression, and his poignant captions all served as a testament to the internal turmoil he was experiencing, caught between his professional obligations and his convictions.

The boxer’s impassioned plea, asking “Is this what you want from me to stop the killing,” underscored the depth of his investment in the Middle Eastern conflict. Right after this video, he deactivated all of his accounts, but even that didn’t last too long.

Will the fans be able to put a stop to his bizarre posts now? It remains to be seen. What are your thoughts on this? Tell us in the comments section.
