Two young faces of boxing, Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney, will battle it out to see who among them is mightier. However, it was not an easy task to get this fight to happen. Now, ‘KingRy’ has revealed why he finally decided to fight ‘The Dream.’

In December, a fight between them was almost finalized. However, at the last moment, KingRy pulled out of the fight and chose to face Rolando Romero instead. To his disappointment, that fight did not materialize. After going through an entire list of potential opponents, Garcia doubled down on a choice his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, had earlier given him – Devin Haney. But why did Ryan Garcia even zero in on fighting Devin Haney in the first place?

Now on the precipice of the grand matchup, he justified his choice. In a face-to-face sit down with his opponent for DAZN, the Californian explained, “Like I said, I seen him picking up steam like he was you know making noise? And I felt like like he got to the point where like it’s time to run it, you know?”

Garcia further explained the logic for their fight. “I feel like he’s coming into his own. I’m myself. And I felt like it was the perfect time. A lot of people like to say he’s not a draw. I think otherwise, I vouch for him. And I said, nah, he got it, picking up,” he admitted.

The 25-year-old also believes that his upcoming fight with Devin Haney will break the previous pay-per-view records set by his fight against Gervonta Davis. Since this will be their first time fighting one another since the amateurs, Garcia believes there is more hype surrounding this fight than his fight with Tank.

Ryan Garcia explains why it didn’t happen sooner

While the fight is set to take place in Brooklyn with all the grandeur it deserves, some of Ryan Garcia’s fans remain confused. They’re wondering why he opted not to fight Devin Haney in the first place, and more importantly, given their history, why the fight didn’t happen sooner.

In the same conversation with DAZN, he explained, “I told him I had a plan. I’m gonna do this, this and that. And I stuck to the plan. I said I’m gonna see you last, I didn’t lie. I just stuck to what I felt in my spirit on what to do. You know, and that’s what I did, and now I’m here.”
