“Sometimes in Boxing, You Win Some, You Lose Some”: Tyson Fury Consoles Campbell Somerville as He Suffers His First Defeat

On the 24th of May, then-undefeated pro boxer Campbell Somerville squared off against Isaias Sette and suffered his first pro defeat in boxing. The bout was scheduled for 5 rounds and Sette defeated Somerville via a 4th round TKO. Following this loss against Sette, Somerville now stands with a record of 1 loss and 3 wins in boxing. After suffering his first pro defeat, Somerville was greatly upset. And it was at this moment that Tyson Fury met and consoled him.
Other than Sette, Somerville has fought Sam Mawson, Carlos Adams, and Ben Horn. Two of his victories have also come by way of knockout. Hence, on the 24th of May, Somerville entered the ring with high hopes and expected to register his fourth professional win. However, it was Sette’s night and he managed to outbox Somerville. After the bout, ‘The Gypsy King’ met Somerville and tried to help him overcome this phase of life.

Loses are part of boxing and a fighter must have the courage to face both an upset and a victory. Although Somerville delivered an impressive performance, he fell short. While Somerville sat on the floor following his first professional defeat, Tyson Fury walked in. ‘The Gypsy King’ then tried to explain that wins and losses were a constant part of boxing. Likewise, ‘The Gypsy King’ encouraged Somerville to look for a comeback. And before leaving, he posed for a picture with Somerville.

“You know sometimes in boxing, you win some, you lose some. Even if you win sometimes you get busted up. I’ve had faces like this many times. Just come back and do what you gotta do. Let’s take a picture together, shall we?” Tyson Fury said to Campbell Somerville. Undoubtedly, Somerville was happy to see Tyson Fury and likewise expressed that he appreciated the gesture. Reportedly, Tyson Fury will return to the ring by the end of this year. And very recently, he engaged in a banter with Jon Jones. He expressed that he could defeat Jones in boxing.
