It is test time for Ryan Garcia. The former interim title holder faced his budding career’s first litmus test in April. Unfortunately, the outcome wasn’t what he and many of his fans might have bargained for. Now putting to rest the poor memories of that loss, the young boxer is off to a comeback of sorts on December 2. Oscar Duarte Jurado is certainly no Gervonta Davis. But he isn’t a wimping-out jellyfish either.

In Jurado, Ryan Garcia faces a formidable foe. He follows the classic Mexican boxing tradition of going for all-out wars. So has the American boxer done any homework before he enters the Toyota Center next week? For one, he seems to be working on his speed. He shared a video of him working on speed drills with his younger brother, Sean Garcia. But how do the fans feel? Not all seem too enthused by Garcia’s public display of skills. This time, even Jake Paul‘s trainer couldn’t hold himself back.

Fine with speed; what about other aspects, Ryan?

In the post, Ryan Garcia spoke about his and Sean Garcia’s impending fights in two weeks. So after their regular workouts, they decided to add in some more pad-work. He urged all fans and followers to share what they thought about his training. And they obliged him soon.

Firstly, Jake Paul’s trainer, former cruiserweight challenger BJ Flores, mentioned that he adores Ryan Garcia. However, inside the ring, strength, timing, and endurance more often than not gain an upper hand over speed. Eventually, those who rely on speed will always get exposed.

In a similar vein, the following user commented on Instagram that speed doesn’t necessarily equate to skill. It is fine to take things slowly in order to perfect the basics, as the user emphasized: “I know u wanna impress ya following but speed don’t mean u good bro. It’s ok to slow it down; make sure u got the fundamental movements down packed.” Straightaway, questioning his ability to absorb powerful shots, the following user told Garcia to connect with Gervonta Davis. What is the use of speed when one can’t take punishment? “All that speed for what, if the chin is glass? Ask Tank.

Criticizing Ryan Garcia’s lack of discipline over defensive techniques, the following user mentioned that he still failed to pull back his hands in front of the chin after every jab. They said, “Still not returning the hand to the chin after the jab.

Several fans were present to uplift the Californian, which should be emphasized. This fan, in fact, pointed out that often the people who have never worn boxing gloves in their lives and think they know what it’s like inside the ring are the ones yapping the most: “So many haters that never even put on boxing gloves before, lmao, y’all don’t know what it’s like in there. Ryan, keep it up, looking sharp!

Undoubtedly, Ryan Garcia’s training clips have this remarkable ability to draw sharp reviews and comments from fans and lay observers. Only a few days ago, a slew of opinions flew in as a video of him taking a dig at Gervonta Davis’s recent training footage appeared.

Nevertheless, Garcia has taken the steps necessary to rebound back with a decisive win in his next appearance in the squared circle.

There is a lot of work ahead

It is a non-title bout. But it’s very important for Ryan Garcia. A win will surely be a statement of his return. It might still take some time before he returns to a big payday. But it will announce, nevertheless, that he is ready for the bigger scheme of things. After the April loss, he shared his plan to stick to 140 pounds, including a possible rematch with Davis. However, he needs to take notice of the fact that the division has its share of luminaries. Hence, even after scoring a victory against Duarte, he will have to tread carefully. In the most classic sense, he will have to pick his battles in the most fastidious manner.
