After several months of doubts and questions, on September 30, Canelo Alvarez finally let everyone know why he is one of the generation’s best. But has he reached a stage where he could be compared with some of the greatest of all time? Robert Garcia, who has in the past trained the likes of Anthony Joshua, Marcos Maidana, and Victor Ortiz, among others, appears to have made an attempt in that direction. But in doing so, he has, as it seems, rubbed many fans and followers the wrong way.

@IzquierdazoBox tweeted and shared yesterday one of the ace trainer’s views. Their message read, “Robert García with one of the opinions that will generate the most controversy in the coming weeks…” So Garcia said that although Canelo Alvarez has accomplished more, he will never be as beloved as Chavez. But that was enough to incense a good bunch of fans who seemingly disagreed with him. Many of them took to posting their viewpoints.

The following user seemed pretty upset and slammed Robert Garcia. He epitomizes the idea that someone can devote their entire life to boxing and still learn nothing!

Another slam dunk for Robert Garcia. Seeing how they have all been losing lately, this fan reminded him to focus more on analyzing his fighters than history.

This user lauded Julio Cesar Chavez’s credentials. He mentioned that, as a true fighter and not someone pampered around, Chavez took on some of the greatest boxers, never picking them at his convenience. More so, he never fought when they were in decline or at a disadvantage.

For this user, Canelo Alvarez seems to have surpassed Julio Cesar Chavez as far as financial success is concerned. Regarding all other aspects, the latter has been the more accomplished fighter.

The following fan highlighted that Alvarez adores and respects Cesar Chavez a lot. People like him (Garcia) and some from the media try to make things unpleasant. Otherwise, the fan said that the Super Middleweight champion has always mentioned idolizing Chavez.

Even an overview of his record should be enough for anyone to gauge what Julio Cesar Chavez achieved. He suffered his first professional loss to Frankie Randall on January 29, 1994. By then, he had already participated in 90 bouts, out of which he won 89. The remaining one went for a draw. Even Mike Tyson has previously referred to Cesar Chavez’s accomplishments when talks, almost on similar lines, featured Floyd Mayweather Jr.‘s 50-0 record.
