Stallone stated, “It’s odd because the earmarks were there. I’m a little hesitant but too incredibly repetitive because it was told to me so many times. My mother would say ‘The only reason you’re here is because the hanger didn’t work’ or ‘Bouncing down those steps didn’t cause you to get lost’.” Then he also recalled another statement from his mother. “If there was really something wrong with your brain I would have definitely opened up the window and put you on the windowsill and let you freeze,” remembered Stallone.

Remarking on how it made him feel, he added, “Your brain is too young to compute. I almost thought she was joking.” He even had a troubled time with his father. And there were times when it extended to more than just verbal abuse.

Stallone’s father’s indifference contributed to a challenging family environment. Recollections from Stallone’s brother, Frank Stallone Jr., depict a household where parental fights were a regular occurrence. He revealed, “I was raised by a very physical father. I was no stranger to serious pain.” He continued, adding, “I think it just became, ‘I’m not gonna break’.
