It’s been two and a half years since the boxing ring echoed with the jabs of one of the finest fighters the era had to offer. But this exile seems to be heading toward a closure. Billy Joe Saunders has finally announced that he will enter the ring soon to start again from where he left off. The last time the fighter was seen in the ring was against Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in May 2021. After suffering the first defeat of his career at the hands of the Mexican boxer, there persisted a certain apprehension around his career.

But these apprehensions were furthered when he decided to take a sabbatical from the sport owing to a scathing eye injury. When the news of his orbital fracture emerged, most people thought it was the knell of his career. But this year, the fighter has hinted at returning to the ring. And with a much more adept promoter, Eddie Hearn, by his side, it is certain that his re-entry will be one of its kind. But is he ready to enter the ring? A new video of him has the answers.

When he faced defeat at the hands of Canelo, Saunders knew he had to do a lot more to rebuild what he had lost that night. But his injury was an impediment to this effort. Two and a half years out of the ring has caused a huge vacuum in the fighter’s portfolio. And when the news of his return emerged, most wondered if he was capable of the prowess he was once known for.

In a video that has emerged, the fighter can be seen teaching a young cohort the basics of defense. A stellar case for his comeback. The video has invited boxing enthusiasts to drop their cents over the fighter’s supposed return.

One user explained the journey of hate to the admiration he’s had for the fighter. He further explained that BJS not taking a fight with Gennady Golovkin was a reason why he was not a fan of him. However, in 2020, the fighter explained why he was unable to book a fight against GGG. He said, “I think Golovkin is now at the age. – he’s 37, 38 – you’ve got to look at his age creeping in and how he fights with his face.”

Another user brought their shade with them. Taking a snide remark at the fighter, the user alluded that the fighter would not take a fight after a scathing punch landed at him. However, how can one forget him begging to continue his fight against Canelo despite sustaining a career-altering injury?

Another fan recognized the moves BJS was teaching his trainees. He applauded the fighter for demonstrating the slip technique. It is one of the four basic defenses of boxing, where a fighter bends their knee and drops their upper body through a hinge in the hip.

After his devastating loss to Canelo, BJS announced that he was hanging his gloves. While most considered that he was doing so after being unable to grapple with the loss, he explained that it was because of his eye injury. One user still believes that he quit the boxing realm because of the loss.

But the question that remained omnipresent throughout was about his return to the boxing ring. The fighter had earlier hinted that he would fight again in December. As of yet, the fighter has not decided on an opponent, but he trusts his promoter, Eddie Hearn, for arranging it.
