After spending most of the year in the shadows, Ryan Garcia is making big moves. He already has set the ball rolling with his coming exhibition fight with Rukiya Anpo. But the American fighter wanted a bigger fish to fry and fixed his attention on Teofimo Lopez. It seems the boxing fans might have a fight in their sights, as the WBO champion is already eager to give a call to Oscar De La Hoya.
Garcia, 26, recently told WBN that he wanted to make a return to the boxing ring in April 2025, when his suspension got over. Notably, he is undergoing a year-long suspension after testing positive for ostarine in the fight with Devin Haney. But it didn’t deteriorate his confidence as he mulled over options and zeroed in on Lopez. He said, “[I’d fight] Teofimo Lopez. I can go down to 140 for a title shot.”

Lopez, 27, was eager to make the fight when he spoke with Little Giant Boxing. He declared, “Well, right now, Ryan don’t got a fight. I’ll see if I call Oscar later, see what’s up.” Lopez, at 21-1, has already fought twice and defended his WBO strap against Jamaine Ortiz and Steve Claggett.
However, both fights were not without criticism. Now, he is gearing up for a return to the boxing ring next year, and his return could align with ‘KingRy’s comeback. What’s more? It could help him secure a heavy paycheck, as Garcia, at 24-1, has emerged as a proven PPV star. But it seems the super lightweight champion will try to claim the larger share.

Teofimo Lopez: a fair share with Ryan Garcia
In the same conversation, Lopez explained that everything had to make sense to him to pursue the fight, including the revenue share. The Brooklyn native pointed out he wanted a 55-45 split in his favor. Why? Because he brought the WBO and the Ring title to the fight. He continued, “Everything has to make sense. It has to. It can’t be, “Hey, let’s just make a fight.” No, we got to give them something to be interested in. Innit? I try to play fair.”
What’s your perspective on:
Is Teofimo Lopez's 55-45 split demand fair, or is he overestimating his market value?
Have an interesting take?
‘The Takeover’ added, “The best way I can, I think a 45-55 split knowing that I’m the king of my division at 140 lb, defending the WBO World title and the Ring Magazine. On top of that, which is lineal. Um, yeah, 55-45 seems like a reasonable split.”

So, it remains to be seen whether Lopez will put pen to paper or will Garcia look at the other champions in the division after such a split demand. And in such a scenario, a rematch between Garcia and Haney couldn’t be ruled out, either.
