Teofimo Lopez Sr. shared his opinions on Gervonta Davis in a recent interview with Hans Themistode. Lopez Sr. is the father and trainer of Teofimo Lopez. And he also got the award of ‘Trainer of the Year’ back in 2020.
Lopez Sr. came on a video call with the ‘FightHype’ reporter and had a conversation about his son, and his views on Gervonta Davis as a boxer. He also tackled the criticism leveled at his son, Teofimo Lopez, for his last fight against Sandor Martin.
Lopez Sr.’s son Teofimo Lopez is a former unified lightweight world champion and has also held the IBF title until the year 2021, for 2 years. His son is widely considered one of the rising stars in boxing, known for his aggressive and flashy fighting style. López gained widespread attention for his victory over Vasiliy Lomachenko in a highly-anticipated match in 2020.

Teofimo Lopez’s father’s opinion on Gervonta “Tank” Davis
In a conversation with Teofimo Lopez Sr., Themistode asked him his opinions on the fight between Gervonta Davis and Hector Luis Garcia. So at first, Lopez starts talking about the criticism his son had to face after his last fight against Sandor Martin. The fans were expecting Lopez to win by a knockout against Martin.
So in response to that, Lopez Sr. told the interviewer that he does not understand the way people give credit to the fighters. He said his son defeated Sandor Martin, who sent Mikey Garcia into retirement, and even that wasn’t enough for the audience.
According to Lopez Senior, the fans complained about Teofimo Lopez not showing good boxing skills or why his son he didn’t easily knock down Martin. And Lopez Sr. gives his son’s haters a reply, where he said that it is very difficult to knock down a man who is not even trying to engage in a fight.
And then he further called out the fanbase on how they don’t question fighters like Gervonta Davis. According to him, fighters like Davis are fighting ‘nobodies’
On Gervonta Davis, he said, “They don’t talk sh*t about these guys, they’re fighting f*cking nobodies.”

Then he continued, “Bro like I didn’t even know who this dude (Hector Luis Garcia) was like every time Tank fights somebody like I don’t even know who they are?”
Is Ryan Garcia a worthy opponent for Gervonta Davis in the eyes of Teofimo Lopez Sr.?
Teofimo Lopez Sr. also opened up about how recognition doesn’t really hold any significance in the modern boxing community. He also said that people do not care about belts anymore, and that every fighter is out there chasing money. And that’s why he does not think he’d still respect Gervonta Davis even if he fought Ryan Garcia.

It is still one of the highly anticipated fights of this year, but recently Ryan Garcia confirmed disappointing news about the Gervonta Davis fight.
Lopez Sr., when asked about Ryan Garcia, stated that Ryan Garcia is not even a world champion. Therefore, he can’t take that fight seriously. . It is not a fight, in Lopez Sr.’s opinion, that he’d be looking forward to.
And in the end, Lopez Sr. said that Tank needs to step his game up, as for now, he doesn’t really look that impressive to him.
