Terence Crawford Delves Into Why He Respects Errol Spence Jr

Terence Crawford began his career at 135 and 140 divisions, but then finally found his solace at the 147-pound contests. ‘Bud’ came into the limelight as he won the WBO Welterweight title after defeating Manny Pacquiao‘s conqueror, Jeff Horn. After that bout, he’s participated further in six title defenses, and for the last five years, he has been longing to go against the Unified champion, Errol Spence Jr. Crawford is finally getting what he’s always wanted and can’t wait to step on the canvas against his toughest challenge supposedly.

On July 29th, the boxing world is going to get their wish fulfilled, as they’ve desired this matchup for a long time now. In addition, even Crawford covets the other three Welterweight titles held by Spence under his name. Both fighters are ready to lock horns at the center of the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. But recently, Crawford has come forward and expressed his true feelings about his opponent before the fight night.

In the first episode of All Access on Showtime, Terence Crawford spoke about the mutual respect between him and Errol Spence Jr. He stated that it was quite easy for Spence to move up in the division and maneuver his boxing career by refusing to fight with the top contenders. He didn’t choose to do that and Crawford appreciates that about him.

Crawford also said, “I commend him for staying at 147 and doing what he said he was going to do, and that’s the fight Terence Crawford, and I respect him for that.” Although in one of the interviews, Spence stated that after the Crawford fight, he was thinking about moving up in weight. Anyway, Crawford added later that he is quite contented that the fight is finally happened but he won’t be completely satisfied until and unless he puts on his gloves against him. Before this, Crawford had his ties with Top Rank, and that is the biggest reason why he couldn’t fight against Spence.

‘The Truth’ was dragging talented opponents of PBC towards him, and he couldn’t look towards ‘Bud’. So Crawford finally set his foot down as he became the free agent and shook hands with the PBC just to make the anticipated match happen. But Crawford is not only excited about this contest, he also seems like he’s ready and determined to defeat the Unified Welterweight Champion.

Since his entrance into the Welterweight division, Crawford has eyeballed the Spence bout. He knew that even the fans and boxing media wanted him to go against the top contender, but his hands were tied. He had to deal with whatever he was getting, but he always knew that he’s trained hard for every opportunity and it was frustrating when he was being held back.

However, after all the struggles, it’s finally happening. “I think it’s going to be a hell of a fight. I think we are going to fight the sh*t out of each other. This is my moment to shine. I am prepared to do whatever I have to do,” Crawford said. He also added that he’ll give whatever force it needs to put him down. Both fighters aspire to become the Undisputed Champion of the division after this bout.

Crawford and Spence have shown their excitement for this event, and even the fans are anticipating it to be an enthralling bout. It has also been compared to ‘The Fight of the Century’, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. Spence believes that their competition would be better than theirs.
