In the wake of Errol Spence Jr.‘s defeat to Terence Crawford, Stephen A. Smith declared on national television that ‘The Truth’ must retire from the sport. Based on the “multitudes of injuries” Spence Jr. suffered outside the ring combined with the punishment he took against Crawford, Smith felt it was high time that the 33-year-old hung his gloves. In addition, he cited Teddy Atlas who felt the crying need for a commission that would at least prevent ‘The Truth’ from fighting for “at least the next year“.

In his recent appearance on The Breakfast Club, Terence Crawford announced what Spence Jr. should ideally do next. Although Crawford said he never lost in professional boxing, he well understood how a loss could “affect you mentally“. Likewise, he advised Spence Jr. to “take a little time off to get his mind right“.

Terence Crawford disagrees with Stephen A. Smith who prefers Errol Spence Jr.’s immediate retirement
According to Smith, should Spence Jr. wish to care for his health, ‘The Truth’ needs to retire after the accidents and the beating he took against Crawford. Hence, on First Take, Smith out loud said, “I believe that Errol Spence Jr. should consider retirement. That’s how bad that a** whooping was.” However, on being told about Smith’s statement, Crawford stated, “Well, I don’t think he should retire. I think he should take a little time off to get his mind right.”

As per Crawford, Spence Jr. needs to get back to the gym after he has taken a little time off. Along these lines, ‘Bud’ declared he understood what Spence Jr. likely felt. “You start asking yourself all different types of questions that you gotta answer. So, I just would tell them, ‘You’re a great fighter‘,” ‘Bud’ added. In addition, he assured Spence Jr. that he would rematch him in no time. “Take a little time off and come back. We’ll do it again,” Crawford concluded.
