In less than a month’s time, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder will enter the ring. But they won’t be standing at the opposite corners, facing each other. While Joshua would be going against Otto Wallin, Wilder would have his face-off with Joseph Parker. Understandably, both remain heavy favorites to sink their adversaries. So what happens if they win? A Joshua-Wilder fight has been hanging on the fence for quite some time. Scores of fans are really hoping to hear something official about the news soon.
Now, the latest update from Matchroom Boxing‘s Eddie Hearn should take them a bit closer. While speaking with Boxing Social, he shared that a Joshua-Wilder match is within the bounds of possibility. However, for that to happen, ‘AJ” will have to defeat Wallin. Likewise, Wilder will have to follow suit by inflicting a loss on Parker. The update follows the good news of the WBC sharing that both former champions could meet next year for a title eliminator.

Only a victory will matter: Eddie Hearn
Reportedly, Hearn mentioned that there has never been a battle bigger than it in boxing. He said, “That fight is the biggest fight in boxing.” According to the WBC’s update to Sky Sports, both Wilder and Joshua, should they emerge triumphant, will be positioned to square off in the ring next year. However, the governing body clarified that despite them being the top two ranked contenders, there won’t be a face-off for a heavyweight title.
‼️ Eddie Hearn has declared that he now believes it's "very likely" Anthony Joshua vs Deontay Wilder will get made, if AJ beats Otto Wallin and Wilder beats Joseph Parker on Dec 23rd in Saudi Arabia: “That fight is the biggest fight in boxing.” [@Boxing_Social] pic.twitter.com/dfMJzgPxYn

So, in other words, the big spectacle on December 23 is expected to churn out the mandatory challenger to Tyson Fury‘s WBC belt. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman told Sky Sports, “In itself, it is a natural WBC elimination tournament. You have Wilder, No. 1, Joshua, you have Parker, you have Otto Wallin; all those are highly ranked in the WBC. After December 23, we’re going to see a different picture in the rankings.”
Undoubtedly, as far as fans are concerned, the final elimination match between Joshua and Wilder would rank among the most famous in the history of the sport.

An epic quest for the throne
Anthony Joshua rides on the back of two successful outings this year. The former heavyweight champion appeared on the bench after two consecutive losses to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. But this year, fans saw him on the comeback road with a unanimous victory over Jermaine Franklin. However, he compensated for that lackluster win by knocking out Robert Helenius four months later.
In between, talks of a fight with Deontay Wilder came into vogue. The former WBC heavyweight champion, unlike ‘AJ’, hasn’t been that active. He returns more than a year after he knocked out Helenius in the first round of their square-up at the Barclay Center. However, like his British rival, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ too rides on the back of the back-to-back defeats he suffered at the hands of Tyson Fury.
