Boxing is a combat sport that comes with its apparent consequences. Every time a boxer enters the ring, he leaves with bumps and wounds. This dangerous sport can even turn fatal, as we have seen in the past. Let’s take a look at a recent bout, which was a bloodbath.

Jai Opetaia and Mairis Briedis went to war on July 2 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Australia. The fight was a sensational display of wrath and fire. Both the fighters made a damaging impact on each other, the latter even cracked his opponent’s jaw in the second round because of the fighters’ devastating collisions with one another. On the other hand, the Latvian boxer got his nose bleeding in round 4. The winner was eventually determined to be an Australian Opetaia. The 27-year-old was crowned the new IBF and The Ring World Cruiserweight champion.

The fight had been postponed two times before. For the first time, the Latvian boxer tested positive for Covid-19. Furthermore, the second time Opetaia pulled out because of an injury. But the fight finally took place, and it was really worth the wait. The winner’s jaw was severely damaged, and as a result, he was unable to talk all that much. He quickly departed the post-fight press conference to receive medical attention.
