Eddie Hearn has come a long way since his apprenticeship days at West End. Son of Matchroom Sports’ founder Barry Hearn has the likes of Anthony Joshua, Usyk, Canelo and Golkovin signed up for promotional deals.

The captain of industry made his bugle heard across the boxing world when he actualized a billion-dollar agreement with DAZN, a maiden deal for boxing. Much credit for organizing mega events at Wembley, such as Anthony Joshua versus Wladimir Klitschko in 2017, goes to Hearn. The battle had reportedly drawn ninety thousand people inside the famous venue.

Eddie Hearn shares his views on Crawford – Spence Jr. Fight

Commenting on the outcome of a fight that would have been memorable by any means, Eddie Hearn seems to side with the PBC boss Al Hayman.

Given their long association with the business end of boxing, he postulated that against standard notions, Crawford – Spence fight would have been a minor draw. He said, “I think that like I have a little bit of sympathy with our in The Spence Crawford fight because the fire is not as big as people think it is and I’ve said this before and I’ve had criticism for this. But like you have to understand whatever you think of me, whatever you think of our Al Hayman, we do know the business and the numbers like the back of our hand right.

“We do this all the time so I can’t have an argument with someone on Twitter who tells me that Spence Crawford does a million buyers like you know yet. We know that if you’re setting a line on a guarantee you set that line at 350 or 400 000 buyers like that that’s if I’m putting my money up that’s where I’m comfortable with the line now it doesn’t mean that’s the number that Al is comfortable with…”

His words decide the fate of a boxing fixture. Naturally, fans would love to see favorites exchanging jabs inside the ring. However, if Eddie Hearn foresees it detrimental to a successful ending, then in all probability, such a match may never see the light of day.

Terence Crawford versus Errol Spence Jr: A fight denied to Boxing World

Terence Crawford, the reigning WBO Welterweight champion from Omaha, has been yearning to fight with fellow American Errol Spence Jr. The latter, a southpaw from New York, won the WBA (Super) Welterweight title after defeating Yordenis Ugas on April 16th this year. He holds the current WBC and IBF Welterweight titles as well. A match between the two would have ideally settled the question of the world’s undisputed Welterweight champion.

But, unfortunately, Crawford is now thirty-five and Errol thirty-two. Neither of them is going to get younger anymore.

The talks between their camps had been going on for some time. However, it caved in when the discussion of equal split cropped up. Crawford revealed even the presence of two unknown entities pitching in to absorb any risk. However, it seems Errol Spence Jr.’s promoters, PBC led by Al Hayman, disagreed with the arrangement.

Now Crawford would be facing European Welterweight champion David Avanesyan on December 10th in his hometown.

Let this be clear first, whether they win or lose; all boxers get paid. Why? The countless hours spent on training, coaching staff, and the promotional hustle and bustle costs, especially for star boxers.

Hence, before a match sets off, negotiations for splitting the amount between the winner and the loser take place. Not all boxers receive equal pay. It depends on their records, popularity, and sponsors. Sometimes, a fighter may receive an additional amount for winning as well.

Though it may sound cruel, the business sometimes has to clarify who cracks the whip in boxing.
