From the moment it became clear that Canelo Alvarez would need to defend his undisputed titles from Jermell Charlo, by and large, there was a consensus. The Mexican Super Middleweight champion remained the heavy favorite to win at his stronghold. But given the outcome that eventually came, in a way that rendered most of the predictions that favored him to win irrelevant, mere semantics. However, a few could see and forecast the trajectory of the fight with sublime precision.

Alongside Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, and Lennox Lewis, Riddick Bowe remains one of the Heavyweights who dominated the last decade of the 20th century. His trilogy fights with Holyfield remain a classic staple. He shared a post on Instagram early today with a short video showing him outside the T Mobile Arena. Besides a few other companions, another legend joined him: former Lightweight Heavyweight champion and Olympic bronze medalist Antonio Tarver. Their discussion soon broached the possible net result of the upcoming Alvarez-Charlo bout. And it wasn’t really wide of the mark.

Tarver joked with Bowe about some money that the latter owed. Soon, one of the people prompted Tarver about Bowe’s prediction of Charlo taking down Canelo in six rounds. The Light Heavyweight champion concurred and shared what he expected.

He said, “Listen, I’m going to tell you how I see it. If Charlo is going to win this fight, then he will have to do it early, and Canelo hasn’t ever been knocked out! He hasn’t really been hurt seriously. But if he is going to win this fight, he has to do it tomorrow night within six. Because the longer the fight goes, it favors Canelo… longer the fight goes, it favors Canelo.

Eventually, as it turned out, Canelo Alvarez scored a convincing unanimous victory over Jermell Charlo, 119-108, 118-109, and 118-109. Clearly, the former champions’ prognosis about the fight turning in Alvarez’s favor if it went the distance has been spot on. But the part where ‘Iron Man’ could take down the Mexican icon within six rounds might sound a bit out of the ordinary.

The latter dominated and controlled the reigns right from the first round. Hence, whether Charlo would have usurped an upset within the first six rounds remains debatable. His performance has faced scathing criticism from several corners ever since. Quite a few lamented that the Houston native entered the ring for the payday.
