Just when talks were underway and everyone was looking forward to seeing him enter the ring against Devin Haney, Garcia dropped a bomb and crushed everyone’s hopes. On X, previously known as Twitter, Garcia stated, “My intent now is to fight Rolando Romero.” He emphasized the bout’s significance, saying it’s “bigger business.” Garcia further justified his decision by suggesting that facing Haney later would be even more impactful. This shift in Garcia’s plan contradicts his earlier stance. Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, had previously indicated negotiations for a Haney-Garcia bout to be held in March.

However, Garcia’s recent decision now shows a change in direction. Surprisingly, due to this, Floyd Mayweather has found himself targeted by fans as he is getting blamed for this move from the boxer. Recently, he and Garcia were seen training together, leading fans to believe that Mayweather was mentoring him in the ways of the business. Social media was abuzz with reactions, suggesting Mayweather’s involvement in the decision. One fan suggested Mayweather’s involvement in the relationship between Garcia and De La Hoya souring.
