Mikaela Mayer is perhaps one of the most recognized fighters in the current boxing scene. Her match against Alycia Baumgardner in October of 2022 was a fight to remember as the two went the whole length of the match. Mayer lost the bout to Baumgardner via split decision. In the process, she also lost her IBF and WBO super featherweight belts. It is a fight that will be hard for her to forget. So what did she have to say about her opponent when she was recently asked about it?

Baumgardner, back in August, it was revealed that Baumgardner had tested positive for two banned substances. She tested positive for samples tested right before her July match with Christina Linardatou in which she was defeated by ‘The Bomb’. That soon lit a fire in the women’s boxing world. Linardatou demanded that the undisputed champion be stripped of all of her belts. However, that has yet to happen as the jury is still out on Baugardner using PEDs as two other samples tested later came out negative. When Mikaela Mayer was asked by Fight Hub TV about Baumgardner and her doping fiasco, she had more than a few things to say.

When asked whether she believes that Baumgardner is a clean fighter or not, Mayer straightaway replied, “No. Absolutely not. If you look at what she tested positive for, now I always thought that she looked extremely ripped. and I’ve had people tell me ‘Oh she’s onto me. She’s onto me’ I’m like ‘No she’s a Christian, she’s a Christian. She’s always tweeting all this Christian stuff, right, you know. she loves God. So she wouldn’t do something like that. Lo and behold.” Mayer proceeded to say how everything that has been found in Baumgardner is not just a case of contamination but of hardcore drugs.

The former Olympian stated, “What she got tested psoitive for wasnt like minimal traces of stuff that can be found in you know, cross contamination like protein or whatever, lotion. Like those are some hardcore testosterone levels and whatever some other black market drug that you can’t even get in America right.”

Furthermore, Mayer expressed her frustration over Baumgardner still trying to claim that she is clean. Mayer said, “I’m not really sure why, one she is going on like it’s no big deal and she’s clean. It’s kind of crazy honestly.” The former super featherweight champion then talked about the irresponsibilities of the commission.

She complained saying, “But the real problem is with the governing bodies and the commissions and everyone who should’ve stripped her already. There’s gotta be more consistency among athletes who don’t follow the rules otherwise what’s the point. There is no transparency here, we should know what’s going on.” But what was Alycia Baumgardner’s statement on her drama is a thing everyone should keep in mind.
