After a long time of association, parting ways could be painful for many. However, it could also set one free on the road of salvation and self-discovery. Probably with those thoughts, Chris Eubank Jr. took a bold step where all the decisions would be his to take. A good judgment call might end up with a pat on the back. But in the event of a poor outcome, he would bear sole accountability.

The son of boxing legend Chris Eubank shared a major update with fans and followers. But more critically, he had wise recommendations for many young aspiring fighters, desirous of making it to the top of the boxing world. 34-year-old ‘Next Gen’ demolished Liam Smith in an exciting rematch on September 2 last year. Though there have been talks of potential fights, none have thus far seemed to have made any headway.

I’m a FREE agent again!!” said the former IBO super middleweight champion, adding a suggestion. “Word of advice to any up & coming fighters: get yourself a solid legal + management team & make sure you only work with promoters that ALIGN with your vision, goals, & dreams. These truth’s will set you FREE!!” He said.

It was in early 2021 that Chris Eubank Jr. joined the European promotional powerhouse Team Sauerland, run by brothers Kalle & Nisse Sauerland. Subsequently, marketing and management giant Wasserman took over the business in March 2021.

Wishing the former world champion all the best for his future endeavors, @sauerlandbros posted the following message on social media platforms: “It’s been an emotional ride! Wishing you all the best for the future, Chris, and Nova Sports!

Basically, becoming a free agent means the boxer is no longer tied up with any of the promotional teams. Chris Eubank Jr. won’t be the first boxer to undertake such a course. Perhaps Terence Crawford remains the most well-known free agent in the boxing world. Then last year, reportedly, former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder also went ahead with a similar move.

Combat Fluctuations

Last year was a watershed movement for ‘Next Gen’. He suffered the first knockout loss of his professional career to Liam Smith in January. But eight months later, roping in the expert services of Crawford’s long-time trainer, ‘Bomac’ McIntyre, Chris Eubank Jr. returned the favor to ‘Beefy’. However, he has yet to step into the ring ever since.

Months following the Smith rematch saw the resumption of talks for a fight with archrival Conor Benn. The two were slated for a major clash back in October 2022. However, the fight faced postponement, followed by an eventual cancellation on account of Benn failing to clear two voluntary drug tests. The fate of their much-anticipated clash hung in the balance. Hence, hopes were restored when the discussion picked up once again. But the negotiations unfortunately caved in as both parties reportedly couldn’t arrive at an agreement.

Amidst talks of his now erstwhile promoters pitching for a Canelo Alvarez fight, rumors of a ‘summer clash’ with Terence Crawford also gained strength.
