“This Country Is Still Holding a Grudge”: Fans Rally Behind Muhammad Ali’s Daughter to Appeal Members of Congress for Awarding the Late Boxing Legend a Congressional Gold Medal

The Congressional Gold Medal is a recognition accorded to personalities who have led extraordinary lives by profoundly impacting the people. The recipients of this prestigious award include George Washington, Robert Frost, and Mother Theresa. Now there has been a call to extend this honor to Muhammad Ali, the Greatest of all Time.

The legendary boxer’s daughter, Maryum Ali, has asked folks to send their senators and representatives a letter nudging them to pass a bill that would honor Muhammad Ali with the Congressional Gold Medal. The late boxer is a revered personality who is the recipient of some of the most significant awards and honors, like the BET Humanitarian Award and the Bambi-Millenium Award, to name a few.

Ali left behind a legacy that will live on for years to come. His dedication to the sport of boxing, humanitarian engagements, and philanthropy is highly commendable. His daughter took to Instagram, asking her followers to do something. She informed folks that Congressmen Andre Carson and Morgan McGarvey had reintroduced a bill in the House that could accord the late boxer a Congressional Gold Medal. She then told them they could be instrumental in the process by asking members of Congress to pass the bill.

Angel suggests that despite Ali deserving all the honors in the world, he still will not receive the medal. The user commented, “You know you have my support, BUT THEY WON’T [EVEN] PUT HIM ON A U.S. STAMP. THIS COUNTRY IS STILL HOLDING A [GRUDGE]” The boxer was one of those personalities who rose to fame in a seemingly polarized landscape in the U.S. A considerable fraction of the country disapproved of him due to his identity.

Simon Vision Media chimed in with an anecdote of Ali favoring his Hollywood Star of Fame by the side of a building rather than on the pavement for tourists to stamp on it. He said, “Hey lady… I found out today that [his] he preferred his Hollywood Walk of Fame star be on [the] side of a building instead of people walking over his name on the Hollywood sidewalk.”

Another user confirmed that they would do the needful. They said, “HR-709, copy, [and] I’ll contact Senator Corey Booker here in New Jersey!”

Eric Fleimg seconds the idea of the boxer having such an honor. The user said, “The Greatest [should have] had one.”
