No other match so far this year fielded chats, backchats, discussions, and arguments as the Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko bout did. Many thought and believed that the Ukrainian was the real winner. But, otherwise, a consensus seems to have settled that it was a closely fought duel that eventually went Haney’s way. However, for ‘Loma,’ the third career loss remains a bitter pill.

So Elie Seckbach of ESNEWS caught up with ‘Loma’ and his team at what seemed like an airport. The journalist asked, “Okay, if Haney fights ‘Tank,’ what happens?” Lomachenko replied, “It’ll never happen because now he [Haney] understands his level. [So] now I think he’ll go up to 140lbs and fight just regular boxers.Michael Benson also shared the update early in the morning today.

How has Lomachenko’s statement been received in the boxing world?

Quite a few disagreed with Lomachenko’s assessment. However, some of his die-hard fans rallied on his behalf. But an overall vibe that resonated from the comments sounded typical of ‘grapes gone sour’.

Criticizing the Ukrainian’s unsportsmanlike behavior, a user named Gavin finds him contemptuous.

According to another user named Steff Martin, everyone who contends themselves a keen follower of the sport and posits that Lomachenko won the fight judges poorly. Genuine followers and critics who watched the bout remain clear that it was either a draw or Haney won, or merely that it was a closely fought contest. Moreover, Lomachenko has become quite bitter after the match, Martin claims.

Echoing Steff Martin’s words, another user also reckons that the way Vasiliy Lomachenko has been talking, it appears as if he knocked out Devin Haney in the first round! But, in reality, he lost to Orlando Salido, Teofimo Lopez, and Haney. Calling him a cynical person, one considering himself privileged, the user mentioned that even when fighting as an amateur boxer, he fought guys much younger than him. So why complain now?

Meanwhile, one user agrees with Lomachenko partially. Like the Ukrainian, he believes that Haney and Davis’s fight might never occur. But after moving up the 140 lbs division, Haney might have to challenge Regis Prograis, who is undoubtedly not your run-on-the-mill variety.

The following user, who appears to be a die-hard ‘Loma’ fan, finds it ridiculous that Haney is considering a fight against ‘Tank’ Davis when he couldn’t even manage Lomachenko properly!

Vasiliy Lomachenko is now thirty-five years old. With growing age, his options are getting slim. On the other hand, Devin Haney has often indicated a move to the Super Lightweight division. But he still has a few names to make allowances for in the 135 lbs weight class. Gervonta Davis remains an unbeaten champion, WBA’s number one ranked belt holder, along with Haney. In addition, the former undisputed Super Featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson has joined the Lightweight ranks.
