Due to a certain injury suffered by Naoya Inoue, the unified 122-pound championship between Stephen Fulton and him, initially set for May 7th, has been postponed. The news has devasted the fans of Inoue, especially those who were looking forward to witnessing his 25th professional fight in boxing. Inoue, who became the undisputed bantamweight champion last year in December defeating Paul Butler with an 11-round KO, vacated four of his titles in January 2023.

The fight against Fulton was supposed to take place in Inoue’s hometown Yokohama and thus, a significant number of supporters were expected to arrive for the sake of Inoue as he looked forward to locking horns with Fulton in the ring. As soon as ESPN reported the news via a tweet, several fans from the community of boxing reacted to it. While some lamented the cancellation of the event set for May 7th, others accused Inoue of running away from facing Fulton inside the boxing ring.

In an unprecedented statement, ESPN Ringside declared, “Naoya Inoue suffered an injury in training and his fight against Stephen Fulton for the unified 122-pound championship on May 7 in Yokohama, Japan, has been postponed, sources tell @MikeCoppinger. The fight is being rescheduled for the summer in Japan, sources said.”
