Despite his firm and unapologetic stance on marijuana use after testing positive and facing a 90-day ban, Keyshawn Davis has made a surprising shift. Ahead of his upcoming bout against Jose Pedraza on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, Davis has decided to quit smoking. This decision marks a notable change in his approach.

Furthermore, he explained in an episode of Cigar Talk, that it was his mental health issues that led him to smoke extensively. He also walked the fans through his journey and said, “I really had to reflect on myself, ask God, really seek out God to help me with this. I’m overcoming it right now as we speak. So ever since I put the weed down, I’ve been a way better person man.” Even his coach and fellow fighters have noticed that he’s got more energy in the current training camp.

Well, hearing his journey, his friend Shakur Stevenson has posted words of appreciation for such a great decision. He wrote, “Proud of u bro U tougher then most champ.. Now take over.” They seem to have a robust amicable relationship with each other. So, will we see them inside the squared circle anytime soon?

As Keyshawn Davis eyes a potential world title opportunity, his path might intersect with that of his close friend Shakur Stevenson. Despite Davis securing top ten rankings in three of the four boxing bodies, including a notable seventh position in the IBF, the prospect of fighting for a world title brings a potential twist to their friendship—Stevenson, who recently held the accolade of being the 3-division champion.

Davis shares a deep bond forged through training and sparring sessions. While both aspire to achieve their dreams in the boxing world, their camaraderie could face a new dynamic if their careers continue to ascend. But Davis believes that it’ll be a great contest. When asked about taking a fight against Stevenson, Davis stated last year, “If it’s worth it. It definitely gotta be worth it. It gotta be super worth it.
