It was big enough news: WBC Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury will take on former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. However, the announcement remained bland and thin for many, especially those who expected Fury to take on other Heavyweights. That was until someone added spice. Mike Tyson joined the Ngannou corner and things changed. Thus, a delicacy got ready, which is set to be served piping hot next week.
The boxing and MMA Heavyweights finally received a chance to face each other before their final showdown inside the squared circle. They pondered various issues in the session moderated by former two-division champion Carl Frampton. It has almost been two decades since ‘Iron’ Mike retired professionally. However, most fans would agree that his presence at events, as one of boxing’s foremost elders, remains a top draw. Tyson Fury and Francis barely disagreed on the notion.

TNT Sports will air the match in the United Kingdom and Ireland. So it had the two giants of combat sports sit at the opposing ends of the table. Halfway through the discussion, Frampton asked Francis Ngannou, “I think we all know you’re tough. We all know that you’re tough as well, Francis, but what… what about Mike Tyson in this fight? How important is he going to be for you being successful?”

‘The Predator’ explained how he and Mike Tyson discussed the first time joining hands if a fight against Tyson Fury ever came. He explained approaching the match from Mike Tyson’s perspective as the smallest guy in the room.

The reigning WBC Heavyweight champion responded that the event’s popularity has surged by leaps and bounds since Mike Tyson’s name was tagged along. While happy for Francis Ngannou, he also felt immense pride in having the former Heavyweight champion associated with the big-time contest. He said, “…because it’s having Mike Tyson attached to this event, and he’s going to be there in Saudi and be there ringside, and usually, people pay him a lot of money to come [to] watch a fight, never mind be involved in the corner, so it’s a…uh fantastic…fantastic…”
Early in August, news of Mike Tyson joining Francis Ngannou came. It is the Cameroonian-French fighter’s pro-boxing debut. Tyson Fury remains the heavy favorite to win the ten-round bout. But many die-hards seem more than willing to accord Ngannou the puncher’s chance.
