Along with his infamous boxing prowess, there is something else that has worked hugely in favor of Tyson Fury. His height. The 6-foot 9-inch heavyweight boxer has evaded knockout punches from his shorter opponents owing to his height. However, when he posed alongside another noteworthy boxer of a different weight division and staggeringly shorter stature, fans were left startled.
Almost a month ago, boxing reporter, Michael Benson uploaded a picture of the ‘Gypsy King’ posing along with minimumweight fighter, Mark Anthony Barriga. The Filipino fighter is 5’2”. As they both stood next to each other, one thing that everyone noticed was their height difference. The picture was posted again by Benson on his X account, recently, and as usual, fans took shots at the heavyweight boxer in the comment section.
Barriga, also known as ‘Da Baby Boy’ is a boxer who used to fight at 105 pounds. After he turned pro, the boxer was seen as a leading name in the weight class. In his 13-fight record, he has won 11 and lost 2 fights. Both of his losses were title fights, failing to win the vacant IBF World Minimum title in 2019 against Carlos Licona and the WBO World Light-Flyweight title in 2022 against Jonathan Gonzalez. After his loss to Gonzalez, he hasn’t returned to the boxing ring.

Meanwhile, in Fury’s upcoming fight against Oleksandr Usyk on May 18th, Tyson will again walk in with a significant height advantage over yet another opponent. The Ukrainian fighter is 6’3”. To deal with Fury’s height and reach, Usyk needs to close the distance using his impressive head movement and footwork.
While it is unsure when the image was taken, fans not only took a swipe at Tyson’s height but also how thin he appears in the picture.
How Tall is Tyson Fury in Reality?
It all started with one fan comparing both the fighters in terms of their boxing prowess. They claimed that Anthony was a better fighter than Fury.

Perturbed by how slim Fury looks for a heavyweight boxer, another user stated that he looked ill.

Another user came with an investigative lens. They posted an old image of the English fighter posing with Joe Joyce and Guido Vianello, possibly from the days when they sparred in 2018. Both Joyce and Vianello are 6’6”. In the image, Fury can be seen standing on his toes, and still having the same height as the two of them. The fan questioned if Fury was actually 6’9” tall.
6'9….really? Why is he here on tip toes here next to Joyce and Vianello who are both 6'6? pic.twitter.com/cfpZnqFCNW

Meanwhile, another fan pondered if Fury’s height gave him an advantage against opponents.
So judging by all the comments about Tyson not being 6-9, his size hasn’t been that much of an advantage?
