The WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, sat down for an interview with the iFL TV in the build-up of his fight against Dillian Whyte. ‘The Gypsy King’ will take on ‘The Body Snatcher’ in an epic battle on Saturday 23rd April. This fight will be Fury’s homecoming, as he will be fighting on home turf after four long years.

Tyson Fury explained the importance of having a stand-in opponent ready, should something happen and the main fight does not pan out. He mentioned having Martin Rogan as a standby fighter when he was fighting Derek Chisora at Wembley in 2011.

When asked about the stand-in opponent for his fight against Dillian Whyte, Fury shockingly revealed the identity of the backup fighter.
He stated, “We have a standing opponent this time just in case he doesn’t fight. The WBC number three ranked contender, Joseph Parker.”

The former heavyweight champion, Joseph Parker, is a good friend of Tyson Fury. Interestingly, the Kiwi heavyweight was a part of Fury’s camp for the fight against Whyte.
Why did Tyson Fury choose Parker?
The Gypsy King had his reasons for picking Joseph Parker as his standby opponent in case Dillian Whyte backs out or is unable to fight. Fury explained, “If Dillian Whyte don’t fight I don’t want no rocky b**. I want a top-five man, I have stated it and that’s it. Joseph Parker is rated number 3.”

Parker is an established fighter himself, as he is ranked among the top five heavyweights in all boxing organizations. Fury promises fans that they will still have a cracking bout in their hands, regardless.
He claimed, “If this idiot [Dillian Whyte] pulls out, then we have got a really tasty step in don’t you worry about that.”
