He might have raised concerns over an unwarranted caution, but the subsequent decision seems to have fallen back on Tommy Fury instead. It’s been over a year since Tyson Fury‘s brother stepped into the ring. Last month, an announcement came that he will return on a Misfits Boxing card scheduled for January 18.

But the matchup against former UFC title contender Darren Till soon ran into trouble. At the press conference, the mixed martial artist threatened that he might resort to kicks if things went downhill in the ring. Understandably, the statement drew all sorts of reactions. However, it seemingly alarmed Tommy Fury. Early this month, he announced that he has decided to pull out of the match. The move hasn’t been well received across various corners. Viddal Riley suggested that Fury should consider stepping away from the sport altogether rather than prolonging an unconvincing career.

Viddal Riley’s honest take on Tommy Fury’s career

Smiling, the English cruiserweight titleholder blurted it out: “Bro, he just—he’s just not good at boxing.” He was speaking on Misfits Boxing’s podcast. The hosts, Ben Davis and Biel, sought his view on Tommy Fury’s career trajectory. Earlier he had stated that he wouldn’t be tagging along in the crossover boxing scene anymore. In most of the fights, Fury barely made the grades.

Riley reasoned, “That’s fine, though, bro; it’s not a problem. We can’t all be good at everything, and just because we have a famous sibling who’s very good at it doesn’t mean that you have to be, bro.” The London-born English champion suggested that perhaps the younger Fury is not naturally skilled or suited for boxing. He believes Tommy Fury is forcing himself into something that doesn’t align with their abilities or strengths. So if he accepts this and moves on, their life could improve because he would stop pursuing something that isn’t working for him.

Viddal Riley acknowledged that everyone has things they’re good at and things they’re not suited for. For Tommy Fury, boxing falls into the latter category. He elaborated on how ‘TNT’ barely managed to score a win against Jake Paul and repeated the performance while facing KSI.

From his side, Tommy Fury blamed Darren Till for the fight’s cancellation. Speaking with iFL TV, he said, “At the end of the day, I’m a professional fighter here, and the reason why I picked Darren wasn’t to then scrap the card…. The last thing I want to do is have somebody lose a couple of rounds and do something stupid like take me down or do whatever.

Weighing In on Concerns Over Darren Till’s Threats

However, the stand has come under heavy criticism. Following Tommy Fury’s latest comments about Darren Till, speaking on ‘Weighing In’, legendary MMA referee John McCarthy suggested that Tyson Fury’s brother really needs to look at the ‘mirror’.

Critiquing Tommy Fury’s concerns about Darren Till potentially fouling in their match, McCarthy argued that such worries are misplaced. Fury should focus on the fact that fouls are not advantageous for any fighter, as they lead to disqualifications and severe consequences.

Darren Till hasn’t taken anyone down in MMA ever. Okay, he did say he might do a high kick during the fight, okay, and if he does, guess what’s going to happen, Josh? He’s going to lose; the referee’s going to disqualify him, highlighted McCarthy.

He even highlighted a recent example where an MMA fighter fouled during a match against a boxer, resulting in both a loss and forfeiture of payment. Perhaps he was talking about the match between the Russian MMA fighter Idris Abdurashidov and Iranian Bagher Faraji.

Despite the criticism, Fury has hinted at securing a better matchup for a more significant fight in the future. Fans are eagerly awaiting further updates on his next move.

What do you think? Should Tommy Fury call it quits or keep pushing forward in his boxing career?
