After sending shock waves across the boxing world on his pro-boxing debut, Francis Ngannou will return to the ring on March 8. Unlike the last time, when he faced and dismayed the reigning world champion, he would be facing a former unified heavyweight title holder. So will ‘The Predator’ achieve the unthinkable in his second bout?

Peter Fury appears to have a perspective on the matter. On February 17, his nephew, Tyson Fury, will face Oleksandr Usyk. Undeniably, the toughest test of their outstanding careers will crank out the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years. But in a matter of weeks, another heavyweight fight will follow. Francis Ngannou will take on Anthony Joshua. Reportedly, the one to emerge victorious in the March bout could get a chance to challenge the new undisputed champion. Peter Fury spoke with iFL TV further on the matter.

Francis Ngannou: Fortune’s Darling?

So talking about Francis Ngannou’s chances, the channel’s reporter seemed to wonder how a boxer could get so fortunate, receiving heaven-sent opportunities. The Cameroonian-French fighter sailed through his boxing debut against Fury, and now he faces Joshua. But a win purportedly gives him a chance to stake a claim to the undisputed title.

Even after spending years on the roster, accomplishing such a feat is something that eludes many A-listed boxers. “That’s what’s been raised here is whether, you know, how right or wrong that is, that somebody that can have two fights at that level, be it be against Joshua and Fury, and then, um, get a shot at the Undisputed um, but is this kind of just the way boxing’s working now in terms of what we potentially could see?” asked the iFL TV’s reporter.

But Peter Fury viewed it differently. To him, Ngannou’s win probably seemed like a shift in fortune. It sounded similar to winning the lottery, which would turn him into a multi-millionaire overnight. So all together, ‘The Predator’ might get lucky and hit the pot. He said, “I could win the lottery tomorrow, couldn’t I, and be a multimillionaire, so what can you say? There’s about that much chance in I think um but look, Fella’s got a chance.

But having said that, he emphasized how, on the whole, boxing should see proper heavyweight boxers take on other professionally trained boxers to set the record straight. Nevertheless, it’s hard to remember the time when the boxing community witnessed such back-to-back fights, with both having far-reaching implications.

As much as Fury and Usyk settle their arguments, for Joshua and Ngannou, it is a golden chance. But if ‘The Predator’ defeats ‘AJ’ and then inflicts a loss on the new undisputed champion, then not only would he make it to history, but it would be a feat nearly impossible to match for anyone, at least for a long time.
