In a surprise move, David Benavidez put out feelers about the Canelo Alvarez fight with His Excellency Turki Alalshikh. His initiative follows the latest row that erupted following the undisputed champion’s comments over a tentative fight. Since the time it came, the post has been picking up steam across the board, with some of the most well-known names from the world of combat sports pitching in as well.

At the kick-off presser for the Alvarez-Munguia fight, the P4P legend, while speaking about the much-coveted bout, specified the terms that could make it possible. But it only ended up inviting criticism from Benavidez. A few hours ago, through an Instagram post, he addressed the Chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, Saudi Arabia.

David Benavidez said, “@turkialalshik let’s bring the biggest and most exciting fight to Saudi Arabia. This will be the biggest Mexican vs. Mexican American fight in the history of boxing, and what better place to do it than The Kingdom, for the entire world to see.

Then, later clarifying that he is not fighting for money, ‘The Mexican Monster’ shared what he wanted to do with the fight purse. So if he loses the battle to Canelo Alvarez, then he will donate his entire fight purse to a charity, as suggested by HE Alalshikh, dedicated to uplifting children’s lives. If he defeats the undisputed champion, then a major portion of the payday will also go towards causes engaged in addressing child hunger.

Declaring himself a ‘champion of the people’ David Benavidez stated that he will keep on fighting the best boxers available. The latest row emerged when, at the kick-off press conference for his recent fight, Canelo Alvarez told a few reporters that David Benavidez doesn’t bring anything additional to a fight. Hence, he will consider fighting him only if an offer ranges from $150 million to $200 million.

The interim super middleweight title holder then chided the Mexican champion. Anyhow, he is not contributing anything extra to their fight. So Benavidez asked why Alvarez should seek such a huge amount.

A multitude of reactions have flowed in since the post appeared. Apart from his partner, some well-known names from mixed martial arts and boxing also joined, expressing their views and thoughts.

Most of the followers lauded David Benavidez for his bold initiative.

‘The Mexican Monster’s step has taken everyone by surprise. As of now, he has a fight in hand. He will fight Oleksandr Gvozdyk for an interim light heavyweight title. Perhaps after that, he could segue back to stake a claim on Alvarez’s undisputed title.
