Unfortunately, not every battle ends the way the boxer had hoped. On October 14, KSI entered the Manchester Arena to accomplish what archrival Jake Paul couldn’t. The American YouTuber-turned-boxer suffered his first defeat at the hands of Tommy Fury in February of this year. Thus, in the battle between influencer boxing and pedigreed boxing, the latter took the lead. So KSI was pretty much determined to turn the tables on the scion of the Fury family.

But, in the end, he lost the six-round match. Initially, Tommy Fury was adjudged the winner by a majority decision. But a later review overturned it for a unanimous victory. However, KSI viewed the outcome as tantamount to theft. A few days after the match, he hired a King’s Counsel to file an appeal against the decision with the Professional Boxing Association. But not everyone believes it was the best of moves. Interestingly, Tommy Fury’s former opponent and Jake Paul’s sparring partner, as well as the trainer, certainly appear to believe so.

What’s the point?

Exhorting almost everyone who has taken up KSI’s appeal, Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor said that it’s a futile exercise. Ultimately, in the end, as it’s bound to happen, PBA would affirm Tommy Fury’s win. He said, “Yah, tripping so damn hard about this @PBABoxing Appeal just for them to confirm Tommy the winner…” However, for all of them, he said, he has a viewpoint. But under no circumstances would it help KSI, he emphasized.

Jake Paul’s trainer and former cruiserweight challenger, BJ Flores, concurred. Lodging an appeal with PBA would make sense had there been any instance of wrongdoing. Since in this case, nothing of the sort happened, the decision might remain as it was. Although it was a tight battle, nothing illegal happened. Flores said, “It doesn’t at all. Unless there was some sort of foul play, everything will stay exactly the same. It was a close fight, but nothing illegal.

Statistically, against Tommy Fury’s 39 successful punches that connected out of the 159 he threw, KSI’s 38 out of the 124 punches connected. Not only that but when the former struck the YouTuber in the back of the head during the second round, he lost a point.

Case of another appeal

The appeal comes on the back of one filed against KSI this year. During the MF & DAZN: X Series 007, KSI faced Joe Fournier. The match at Wembley Arena came to an end in the second round. A right hook from KSI failed to connect. But his elbow, in turn, hit Fournier, who was instantly knocked out. KSI was declared a winner. However, based on an appeal filed by Fournier, the PBA eventually overturned the decision and declared the match a ‘no-contest.’
