Four-division champion, Canelo Alvarez, could have returned to the middleweight unit following a long hiatus from the ring after his win over Sergey Kovalev in 2019. However, he entered the super middleweight division to fight Callum Smith for the WBC and WBA world titles in 2020.
It was a commendable move by the P4P king, but many saw it as an excuse for him to duck the WBC middleweight champion, Jermall Charlo. ‘Hit man’ has been calling out Alvarez for a brief period and just when the time seemed right, Alvarez left the middleweight division. However, he has no intentions of ducking Charlo and envisions the fight to happen somewhere down the line.
Canelo Alvarez connected with Fight Hub TV, and with the help of an interpreter, he responded to the accusations. Furthermore, he addressed his immediate future in the sport.

“Hopefully yes, why not? A fight has to happen with one of those two (Jermall Charlo and Caleb Plant),” said Alvarez.
Speaking on his future, Canelo added, “We don’t know. The only thing I can tell you is my goal to win the 168 lbs belts and then let’s see what comes.”
The perfect weight division to stage a fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo will be at 160 lbs. Both the boxers have resided at the weight class, but Charlo is willing to move at 168 lbs to face the bigger names.

Canelo Alvarez vs Jermall Charlo- A super middleweight thriller?
Boasting off 31 wins with no defeats, Charlo has already reigned over the middleweight division. That said, he might be comfortable facing an elite at his natural weight class. But ‘Hitman’ doesn’t mind pushing the limits. A few months back, he agreed to move to 168 lbs to fight the biggest names in the sport.
