Video: WBC Honors Evander Holyfield, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oleksandr Usyk, and Roberto Duran With Special Belts, Gold Gloves, and Gifts at the 2023 Convention

How often do boxing legends gather to celebrate the sport that got them there in the first place? The 61st WBC Convention recently kickstarted in the beautiful city of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Boxing luminaries gathered from all across the world. The event was an attraction like no other, with legends in every direction. However, a few names twinkled brighter than others. Evander Holyfield, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oleksandr Usyk, and Roberto Duran were honored in the ceremony. 

During the grandiose gathering of the luminaries, these legends of boxing were honored with special belts, golden gloves, and a plethora of other gifts. The event began on 12 November, followed by the award ceremony at the Hilton Hotel. As one legend after the other took center stage, the boxing world was reminded of their greatness and contributions to the sport.

Julio Cesar Chavez was the first recipient of the award. WBC honored the retired legend with a specially designed belt. With 107 professional bouts under his belt, the former world lightweight champion was recognized for his achievements in the sport.

After Chavez, Evander Holyfield took center stage, as he was given special golden gloves, a cap, and other gifts. Holyfield has had a great impact on the sport, right from his career prime to his retirement. So, WBC honored the former champion by recognizing his contribution to the sport of boxing.

Robert Duran, who often symbolized boxing greatness, was also honored with gifts and accessories. But not before Duran handed gifts to Billy Dib, an Australian professional boxer. Duran was known for his aggressive fighting style, not to mention his iconic rivalry with Sugar Ray Leonard. WBC honored the legendary boxer for his contributions to shaping the landscape of boxing. 

Unlike the previous recipients of the awards, Oleksandr Usyk is still active in the boxing scene. To appreciate Usyk’s accolades in the sport, the WBC recognized his stellar performance and accomplishments. What’s more. Usyk’s inclusion among the recipients underscored WBC’s recognition of the stars that take the boxing form further into the future.

As the convention kick-started with the awarding ceremony at the Hilton Hotel, it set the perfect mood for the rest of the event. With memorable names in attendance, the event is set to become one of the greatest extravaganzas of the year for boxing.
