On Saturday, June 4 at the Motorpoint Arena, Welshman Joe Cordina squared off with Japanese boxer Kenichi Ogawa, challenging the latter for his IBF super-featherweight title. Ogawa, who walked into the bout with a professional record of 26 wins and only 1 loss, had been holding onto the title since November last year.

However, Cordina showed up with an unbeaten record comprising 14 wins and sealed a KO victory over Ogawa near the end of the second round.

With one minute over the second round, both the fighters occupied the center of the ring. Ogawa kept his guard low and his chin unprotected. At this, sensing the target within his reach, Cordina threw a feint at Ogawa’s body but caught him with a vicious right hand to the face. This saw Ogawa hit the canvas and thus Cordina won the fight.
