WBC Provides Major Update on Canelo Alvarez vs Avni Yildirim Purse Bid
Mexican boxing superstar Saul “Canelo” Alvarez already has a lot going outside the ring. Recently, his purse bid for the vacant WBC super-middleweight title against Avni Yildirim got postponed.
The purse bid was supposed to take place on 21 September and PBC (Premier Boxing Champions) was keen on making the bid for the fight.

The WBC, however, announced that the purse bid for the fight will be postponed to October 6. In addition to that, they have received registration to participate in the process by TUFF Promotions.
Avni Yildirim’s promoter weighs in on the fight with Canelo Alvarez
Yildirim’s promoter Ahmet Oner was hopeful the fight would take place after a reasonable bid was made. In an interview, he said:
“We are waiting. I don’t know what happens. The plans are made by the WBC. We are the mandatory challenger. Whatever the WBC decides, we have to follow the rules.

“We are happy with our position that we are the mandatory challenger, and if it’s Canelo, it’s great. If it’s a different opponent, then we will see. We’ll go from there, but right now, I don’t know who is fighting us for the vacant title.

“Canelo is a big chance for us, so I let things go smooth. Let him resolve his issues if it’s possible.
“We’ll be happy if it’s Canelo, and if it’s then decided that Canelo will not fight, then I speak to my partners PBC. We have a contract with them and we have an agreement, so we’ll speak to PBC and president Mauricio Sulaiman. I am still hopeful for Canelo.”
Now, the four-weight world champion Canelo Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KOs) already has an issue to settle with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.

Canelo has a long list of potential opponents lined up for his next bout. But it is hard to say when he will step foot in the ring again.
