He is one of the most popular figures in his native country of the Philippines. And the popularity can not be attributed to his in-ring work only. Manny Pacquiao is known for his extensive philanthropic initiatives in his home country.

Pacquiao has come from very humble beginnings in the city of Manila. His early life was challenging to say the least.

Growing up in poverty, Pacquiao turned to boxing at the age of 16, which became his salvation. Since achieving stardom, Pacquiao has been working towards the upliftment of those who face the same issues which he faced when he was struggling.

Is Manny Pacquiao the biggest Filipino philanthropist?

Pacquiao has actively made contributions in aiding the underprivileged community of the Philippines. Pacquiao has devoted a significant portion of his prizefighting.

From providing student scholarships to the construction of public health infrastructure, Pacquiao has worked vigorously for the people of his country. One of his biggest philanthropic works was building 1,000 houses in his native province of Sarangani back in 2018.

“I will never forget where I came from. I thank god for allowing me to help other people. After each fight, half of my income goes to the poor. But I don’t like to announce it,” he said on the occasion.

Pacquiao’s desire to create a change led him to initiate his own charity foundation “Manny Pacquiao Foundation” in 2019.

“We want to do even more. We want to build more homes, build hospitals, provide scholarships and expand our imports into other countries,” Pacquiao says in the introductory video for the foundation.

Serving as a senator in the Philippines since 2016, “Pac-man” continues to work for the betterment of his community. His contribution towards the growth of his nation is prominent as he juggles his time between boxing, politics, and philanthropy.
