Mexico’s greatest boxing elites, Canelo Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., are frequently compared by the fans and analysts of boxing. While both men hail from two different eras, they have a lot in common.
Appearing inevitable for a large part of their careers, Alvarez an active champion, and Chavez Sr, a retired veteran, dominated the sport in their respective eras. Meanwhile, both of them are considered as two of the greatest boxers of all time.
However, Chavez Jr. has apparently hesitated to tag himself similar to Alvarez. He has hinted at his 90-fights win streak, to belittle Alvarez’s resume of 55-1-2. But the P4P king didn’t seem interested in comparing himself with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

In a chat with Behind The Gloves, Canelo Alvarez responded to the Mexican elite and said, “I really don’t want to be like anybody. I want to make my own story. When this is all over, when I retire, the numbers will tell my story.” (via a translator)

Already a four-division champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is one of the most active champions. He currently holds the WBC, WBA, and Ring Magazine 168 lbs title. Moreover, the 30-year-old will look forward to adding the WBO strap by beating Billy Joe Saunders on May 8.
Hence, Alvarez is rightly in his own league and can look into the eyes of several legends of boxing. But if put on the same scale with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr, 30-year-old Alvarez might have a lot more to achieve.

Meanwhile, Canelo Alvarez has also been impressive in his 16-year-long pro career. He has faced several world champions and is a great ambassador for Mexican boxing. Despite looking to create his own identity, Alvarez has also vowed to surpass that of Chavez Sr.
