It’s been over two years since Jermall Charlo fought in the ring. That’s why he is planning a spectacular finish to his return fight. The 33-year-old WBC Middleweight champion of the world meets Jose Benavidez Jr. on November 25 at the Las Vegas-based Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino’s Michelob ULTRA Arena. The duo fights in the main card bout between Benavidez’s younger brother, David Benavidez, and Demetrius Andrade. ‘The Mexican Monster’ will defend his WBC (interim) Super Middleweight title in the Showtime pay-per-view event.

Charlo could have marked an early entry. It was his name that initially came up against Canelo Alvarez. But in the end, as it turned out, it was his brother, Jermell Charlo, who entered the ring opposite the Mexican icon. Now he finally gets a chance to redeem himself and shut down all the doubters and cynics. On November 25, the ‘Hitman’ is dead serious about making a statement. The unbeaten champion, reputedly a heavy hitter in comparison to his brother, made no bones about what he planned to do to Benavidez Jr. When he steps into the ring, he won’t be treating his opponent with any deference.

It will be no-holds-barred: Jermall Charlo on the fight with Jose Benavidez Jr.

Talking to Fight Hub TV, Jermall Charlo shared that he is not taking the bout casually. He understands that Jose Benavidez Jr. is probably trying to project it as a brothers-versus-brothers kind of match. The ‘Hitman’ continued that he’s getting back to the ring after two years. He doesn’t want to give any excuses for his absence. Benavidez Jr. tried his level best to provoke him. However, Jermall Charlo knows the most apt response.

He continued, “ …I’m like, you know, whatever my rebuttal was, like, you know, uh, that’s why they named you Jose. No, I don’t have no respect for him um I have respect for myself to go out there and, uh, dictate the fight. Be patient. um of course, if I hit him flush, I’m knocking him cold out.

Though he’s been out of touch for more than two years, many expect the bigger Jermall Charlo to deliver Benavidez Jr. his third professional loss.

The quest to redeem

Charlo fought Juan Macias Montiel on June 19, 2021. The ‘Hitman’ held the reins of the fight right from the initial rounds. Though the battle went the whole distance, he won the match by a unanimous decision. Given the temperament of both boxers, their upcoming press conference may turn out to be a battlefield, even before they actually enter the ring.
