After four years of Mike Tyson’s professional debut, Christy Martin staged her own in 1989. The duo went on to unleash a streak of KOs to finally cross paths in 1996. While Mike Tyson appeared in a massive fight against Frank Bruno on March 16, Martin fought Deirdre Gogarty in the undercard.

Martin vs Gogarty was the sole female fight on the card, which had Bernard Hopkins and Mike Tyson as the main and co-main fighters. So, a lot of eyes were glued on the female bout which had gone to the length and Christy Martin stole hearts with her constant ingress inaction. ‘The Coalminer’s daughter’ earned a unanimous win and seemingly left as a show-stealer of the night.

Moments later, Mike Tyson knocked out Frank Bruno in a devastating fashion to grab the WBC world heavyweight title. Hence, both Martin and Tyson could depart with their names on the top slot after the fight. Although they never really came across again, the Don King event saw them connect in a historic trend.

In a career of 23 years, Christy Martin won 49 matches. She claimed 31 KOs in her resume in a response to 7 losses and three draws. However, her personal life has seen several dark days, similar to her contemporary Mike Tyson, again.

In 2010, Martin’s husband had attempted to kill her as she was reported t be a constant subject of domestic violence. Her husband had even shot her with a bullet, but the boxer battled hard to survive. According to the reports of newsweek, Netflix has dubbed her life to display in the Deal with the Devil, the second episode of the show Untold.
