In a deleted tweet, former world champion boxer Paulie Malignaggi called former unified Super Middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe the most overrated boxer in the history of the sport. Although Calzaghe won 46 out of 46 fights in professional boxing and retired undefeated, Malignaggi was disappointed that the former never fought a figure as big as Carl Froch. Hence, Malignaggi, believing none cared about Calzaghe’s defenses, felt he was justified in branding the latter overrated.

However, Calzaghe, who, as per Michael Benson, deserves to be on the same page as Floyd Mayweather, recently hit back at Malignaggi. Showing little mercy, offended by the former’s comments, the 51-year-old, who hung his gloves following a victory over Roy Jones Jr. in 2008, embarrassed Malignaggi in public.

Of late, Malignaggi shocked the world as he called Calzaghe “the most overrated boxer of all time.” Additionally, when Michael Benson openly celebrated Calzaghe and Mayweather’s unbeaten records, Malignaggi bemoaned that Joe did not “fight everybody.” According to ‘Magic Man,’ apart from “2-3 great wins,” the ‘Pride of Wales’ restrained from taking risks. In fact, he was also of the opinion that when the four-belt world champion faced Roy Jones Jr., the latter “was past his prime.” In this context, Calzaghe roasted Malignaggi.

In his response to Malignaggi, Joe recently called the former one of the worst world champions boxing has ever seen. Taking to X, he wrote, “Who is the worst world champion of all time? Besides Paulie Malignaggi.” Undoubtedly, Joe’s response has left the boxing world in splits. Here is what they are saying.

Boxing world roasts Malignaggi along with Calzaghe

While Malignaggi feels Calzaghe is overrated, one must point out that some of the opponents the latter defeated include Chris Eubank, Kabary Salem, Mikkel Kessler, Roy Jones Jr., and Bernard Hopkins. Likewise, several fans were in total disagreement with Paulie. As a result, following Calzaghe’s comment, they took a moment to laugh at Malignaggi.

According to one, Maliganggi has not recovered from the beating Amir Khan gave him.

Meanwhile, one said, “Poor Paulie.”

On the other hand, one strongly agreed with Calzaghe. “Yep, it’s him,” they said.
