Caleb Plant knows how to rile up his rivals and get on their nerves. While the former IBF super middleweight champion is fighting Trevor McCumby, he is brewing an intense rivalry with Edgar Berlanga as a side quest. His endeavors seem to return results, as ‘The Chosen One’ has taken the legal route to pin him down. But what did he do?

Plant, 32, recently bought the domain edgarberlanga.com and is now using it to promote his brand and sell his merchandise. The amusing strategy seized the attention of the fans. But this is not the first time the 22-2 record holder has done it. He pulled a similar marketing move last time around by buying the domain to David Benvidez‘s name and using it to promote his brand and content. However, unlike ‘The Mexican Monster,’ Berlanga, 27, is not sitting idle and is planning to turn to court to stop the misuse of his name.

Boxing Kingdom shed light on the legal tussle between the two and informed boxing fans of the development. The handle also pointed out that the marketing strategy was legal and therefore, Berlanga, at 22-0, would fail in his suit. The post read, “The impressive marketing strategy is legal and Berlanga’s challenge will likely be unsuccessful.”

However, it will not affect Plant’s scheduled fight with McCumby, as it doesn’t raise questions about his ability to fight. So, the fans will enjoy the return of ‘Sweethands’ after a 17-month-long layoff.

Caleb Plant cautions McCumby ahead of their clash on the Alvarez-Berlanga bill

Plant, at the last press conference, sent a message to McCumby, referencing the grand arrivals incident when a fan, possibly a relative of Trevor McCumby, called him “b-m” in the crowd. He used the same reference to throw a jibe at his opponent, as he pointed out the difference in the prowess of opponents McCumby had faced till now. Plant said, “You want to be on the big stage, and you can’t do that by fighting a b*m… Everybody you’ve been fighting is a b-m. But you’re not fighting a b-m now.”

A win for the Tennessee native will help him nab the interim WBA title and will push him closer to the coveted rematch with Canelo Alvarez provided Canelo wins the Berlanga fight. A loss, on the other hand, will push him down and will raise questions about his boxing career. It remains to be seen whether he bags a win and sets himself up for bigger fights.
