One of the reasons people get hooked on sports is stats and records because that’s the easiest way to gauge where a particular icon stands or who’s better than him. In boxing, the ‘Hall of Greatness’ contains names who reached the peak of their craft, over the years, through ebbs and flowed. A few of them, for instance, ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and Mike Tyson, were beaten back in the day. Hence of late, the criteria of having remained unbeaten have crept in as one of the parameters to judge a boxer’s prowess during his prime.
One such attempt was made by user Real Boxing Knowledge 2, who released a collage having a pic of Floyd Mayweather Jr., Andre Ward, Ricardo Lopez, Sven Ottke, and Joe Calzaghe. All these legends have one thing in common – a record sans defeats. They all retired as unbeaten champions. The Facebook page posed a question, “Who’s the best undefeated fighter here? Most Complete Fighter P4P?” It didn’t take fans much time to share their standpoints. A few agreed while many had their own assessments.

Seriously, Floyd Mayweather Jr.? How come fans ask
Probably for reasons known to him, user Frank Duterte calls Mayweather Jr. “Roidweather” and asks why his name is present in the list when boxers such as Castillo, Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya, and Maidana all defeated him. He said, “Why [is] Roidweather [on] the list? He lost to Castillo, Pacquiao, Oscar, and Maidana. He’s not undefeated.“
User Inocencio Bungabong wants Mayweather Jr.’s picture removed. The only thing he could do was to run around during fights. For sure, he was an utter bore, “Floyd the boring erase the picture because runner fighter not amazing champion the boring champion.“
User Josue Mercado also chimed in with a similar opinion. He said Joe Calzaghe was a picture-perfect champion with an unblemished record. At the same time, Floyd Mayweather Jr. faced at least three defeats in his career. “Joe Calzagghe boxing, which flawless toast, was not stained his record or questioned of losing a fight, as in the case of Floyd, who lost in the clearest way 3 times.” He said.

But a few believed Mayweather Jr. deserves every right to be counted among the greatest. Calling him the most talented boxer in the lot, user Shannon Smith stated that as far as sheer punching power goes, he would go with Calzaghe and Lopez. He said, “Clearly the most gifted boxer out of this bunch is Floyd. For punch output, though, I would go with Calzaghe and Lopez. Ward is also a favorite of mine. All great boxers, though.”
Richard Clark also highlighted that Floyd Mayweather Jr. had defeated world champions that included many Hall of Famers, “Floyd beat multiple champions and at least 4 or 5 HOFs and future HOFs.“

Many of Mayweather Jr.’s fights and their outcomes remain open to debate to this day. But it cannot be denied that he was ‘the face of boxing’ during the first two decades of this century. Also, an enormous credit goes to him for bringing big money into the sport. Hence, records apart, his contribution to boxing stays invaluable. But, of course, that doesn’t dent a speck of how other greats fought, earned laurels, and entertained fans for years. Who do you think is the best-undefeated boxer of all time?
